Job description


Position Summary:
The GIS Technician will provide (fulltime/40 hrs wk) support to the Vegetation Mapping and Wetland Delineation teams. The primary tasks include digitizing aerial imagery, creating maps and plant identification guides, looking for plant communities within the National Vegetation Classification system and data entry. There is also potential to assist teams with field work if needed. This position is in-person and preference will be given to those already residing in the state. Must be able to relocate with vehicle. ECDP is currently unable to provide relocation or housing costs or recommendations.

Position Location: CSU CEMML, Fort Collins, CO
The main office of the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML) is based on the campus of Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO. Located in Northern Colorado about an hour north of Denver and a 45-minute drive south of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Fort Collins is consistently awarded one of the top places to live in the United States.
Essential Job Duties:
Administrative:
  • Office-based tasks can include data entry and management, public outreach, preparing site forms, writing technical reports, compliance documents, database and data management, spatial analysis, and/or preparing correspondence and other documentation.

Fieldwork:
  • There is a potential to assist teams with field work if needed

Conditions of Employment:
  • Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for new hires).
  • Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a driver's license by the employment start date.
  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; the department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
  • Must be able to pass a federal background investigation to obtain a Department of Defense Installation Access Pass. You will need to possess a Real ID or passport.

None
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Pursuing a B.S. in a natural resources-, cultural resources-, ecosystem science-, or environmental compliance-related field (at least a sophomore standing).
  • At least 3 months and no more than 3 years of relevant experience, which may include internships, fieldwork, seasonal jobs, volunteer work, or applied coursework
  • Basic field data collection skills (eg. Vegetation surveys, wildlife monitoring, GPS-based mapping; academic or field school experience would count).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled or holder of a Graduate Degree in natural resources management, environmental science, geography, geographic information systems (GIS), history, anthropology, or computer science, or a related field.
  • Experience with Esri ArcGIS software.
  • Experience using Avenza or hand-held GPS for field data collection.
  • Experience managing spatial data in geodatabases or Microsoft Access databases.
  • Experience with digitizing aerial imagery, creating map, and plant identification guides.

Salary Range
$48,000 to $50,000
