Job Description: About VOCAL-NY

Founded in 1999, Voices Of Community Activists & Leaders (VOCAL-NY) is a statewide grassroots membership organization that builds power among low-income people affected by HIV/AIDS, the drug war, mass incarceration, and homelessness in order to create healthy and just communities. We accomplish this through community organizing, leadership development, advocacy, direct services, participatory research and direct action.

At VOCAL-NY, we fight for systemic change rooted in justice, compassion, and love. We approach this work with a firm belief in reducing harm and ending stigma, and the knowledge that the issues impacting our communities are driven by institutional oppression, not personal failings. Our campaigns and services have saved or improved the lives of hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers across the state.

Position Description

This position is part of the Harm Reduction Services team, which provides onsite and street-based syringe exchange, overdose prevention, hepatitis C and HIV education, care coordination, drug treatment education, and other services for active and former drug users. Services are provided in a low-threshold, nonjudgmental and culturally relevant manner. This position will be responsible for collecting service documentation, entering its data into contracting platforms, and assuring the quality of collected documentation and submitted data. The position will report to the Managing Director of Harm Reduction Services. The position is eligible to work remotely.

Job Responsibilities

  • Data Entry: Enter service delivery, enrollment, and outreach data into AIRS, eSHARE, RedCAP, or other contracting databases and other systems as required.
  • Data Quality Assurance: Work with the Managing Director and Harm Reduction Services staff to identify issues with documentation and data submissions, troubleshoot problems, recommend solutions, and oversee needed corrections efforts.
  • Maintain Data Collection Instruments: Assist in the development and/or modification of data collection instruments as necessary in collaboration with the Managing Director of Harm Reduction Services.
  • Professional Development: Maintain current knowledge of the field, including learning new and existing software, applications, and databases, and assist in the development of new information systems projects.
  • Participant Confidentiality: Maintain participant confidentiality at all times as per VOCAL-NY policies and procedures.
  • Other duties, as assigned by supervisor

Job Requirements

  • The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of harm reduction and past experience providing low-threshold services to active drug users and a commitment to building power among low-income people who use drugs to fight for social justice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively, give & receive feedback, and build working relationships with people from all walks of life
  • Strong computer and written communication skills
  • Understanding of and commitment to basic harm reduction theory and practice.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational, problem solving, and data management skills.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to assist in ongoing data analysis to identify opportunities, interpret emerging trends, and measure larger social impact strongly preferred
  • Ability to complete audit-worthy documentation in a timely fashion
  • Demonstrated experience in meeting deadlines

Schedule: This position will work 3 days per week for a total of 24 hours per week.

Remote work eligibility: This position will follow a hybrid schedule with some in-person hours for team meetings.

Equal Opportunity Statement: VOCAL-NY is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Women, people of color, people who are LGBTQ and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply. We are particularly interested in hiring those who have been adversely affected by HIV, drug use, mass incarceration, and/or homelessness.

Benefits
  • Paid Vacation Time (accrued at 0.0769 per hour, with a maximum of 20 days per year)
  • Paid Wellness Time (accrued at 0.035 per hour, with a maximum of 9 days per year)
  • 13 Holidays & End of Year closing period (payable when falling on one's regular work hours)
