Job description

Nordic Valley is seeking a Human Resources Specialist/Administrative Assistant to support the daily operations of our HR office and the General Manager during our winter season. This is a hands-on, people-first role for someone who enjoys keeping an office running smoothly, delivering excellent service to team members, and juggling a variety of HR and administrative tasks in a fast-paced resort environment.

Reporting to the HR/Accounting Manager, this position assists with recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding; employee communications and engagement; uniform and supply inventory; and employee safety initiatives. The role also supports payroll and clerical accounting duties.

This is a full-time seasonal position running October through April. Employees receive a season pass for themselves and their dependents, plus additional perks and discounts.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:  

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of personal and sensitive information.
  • Provide professional, courteous service to all walk-ins, phone calls, and emails.
  • Keep data entry accurate, organized, and up to date.
  • Assist with maintaining employee records and training documentation.
  • Manage office supply inventory, workspace organization, and the HR email account.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently across all levels of staff.
  • Coordinate employee engagement programs and special events within budget guidelines.
  • Administer internal employee perk and discount programs.
  • Partner with the HR/Accounting Manager and Director of Resort Services to issue employee season passes and uniforms.
  • Help the HR/Accounting Manager and General Manager develop and deliver training sessions and materials for staff across departments.
  • Assist with payroll and clerical accounting tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Working knowledge of, or willingness to learn, federal and state employment laws.
  • Proven discretion and sound judgment when handling confidential or sensitive matters.
  • Skilled at defusing confrontational situations with professionalism and tact.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace, Microsoft Word and Excel, email, and internet research.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to multitask under pressure.
  • Close attention to detail.
  • Ability to provide basic numerical analysis and move projects from idea to action.

Education and Experience: 

2+ years of HR experience preferred, ideally in the ski or hospitality industry or managing a mixed seasonal/year-round workforce.

Experience with onboarding processes; PayCom experience a plus.           

Working Environment/Physical Activities:

Primarily an indoor office environment, with a small portion of the day spent outdoors staying connected to department managers and daily resort operations.

Occasionally lifts, carries, pushes, or pulls up to 45 lbs; frequently handles objects and communicates in person, by phone, and by email.

This is a non-skiing position.

Must be available to work some weekends and holidays during the ski season.
