Job Title: Data Engineer, Business Strategy & Analytics
Department: Business Strategy & Analytics
Job Reports To: Sr. Director, Business Strategy & Analytics
Status: Exempt
Position Overview:
The Data Engineer will be a key contributor in the overall business supporting the Organization's NHL, Arena, and Sabertooth Sports & Entertainment business units.
The Data Engineer will play a key role supporting the organization's data ecosystem, contributing to the development, maintenance, and optimization of data pipelines and systems that power sales, marketing initiatives, fan engagement, and analytics efforts.
The ideal candidate possesses a comprehensive engineering skillset along with experience in building and managing ETL/ELT data pipelines; writes and manages complex SQL scripts, stored procedures, views, has experience managing the datasets that support statistical modeling, visualizations, and overall is someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, is detail-oriented, and is passionate about building data solutions that drive business value.
Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to operational strategy on database architecture and design for the business strategy & analytics function of the business.
  • Optimize reporting and analysis datasets for improved performance and expanded resourcing capabilities through normalization, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
  • Design and manage ETL/ELT pipelines, data migrations, and data validation processes including data flows available over API's, RSS feeds, webhooks, SFTP servers, and SaaS platforms.
  • Develop modeled data sets designed for automated reporting across ticketing, partnerships, digital marketing, and customer journey mapping.
  • Experience with identity resolution/golden record systems creation and management.
  • Support CRM and Analytics teams to understand data needs and deliver reliable solutions.
  • Grow the scope of responsibility and impact of the analytics team and the overall Business Strategy & Analytics department.
  • Execute techniques to identify, extract and analyze data to support business decisions.
  • Execute analytical approaches to transform complex data into thoughtful, actionable
    insights.
  • Contribute to documentation of data processes, schemas, and workflows.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree with a consistent track record of professional and personal achievement. Preferred degree concentration: computer science, information systems, business analytics, or statistics.
  • 0-1 year professional experience building ETL/ELT pipelines, relational database design/management, and data operations.
  • Expert-level understanding of SQL (PostgreSQL preferred).
  • Familiarity with Amazon Redshift related AWS Services (S3, RDS, IAM, Glue, DMS) a plus.
  • Proficient in R, Python, Javascript, or any other open-source tool for data pipeline building/management.
  • Deep understanding of dimensional data modeling concepts and practical experience building star schemas, including the definition of facts, dimensions, and slowly changing dimensions.
  • Exceptional Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Understanding of ticket operations (Ticketmaster/TM1/Archtics) a plus.
  • Understanding of CRM systems data a plus.
  • Must be able to identify problems, their sources, and their potential solutions while continuing to successfully conduct day-to-day operations without interruption.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, with strong critical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Experience in the Sports and Entertainment industry is a strong plus.
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills.
