Job Summary

The IT Director, Data Architecture & Engineering, leverages their experience to drive strategy and execution for the necessary data transfer, transformation and storage in support of Genesco’s business processes. This role will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our data capabilities. They will drive innovation across our Data platforms and pathways with a focus on solving complex problems, embracing modern technologies, and delivering high-quality, trusted solutions. This role will provide thought leadership but also be a hands-on role leading a team of talented engineers and architects, fostering a culture of excellence and driving the development of cutting-edge platforms that empower our business and customers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic vision and technical leadership for both the Data Platform and transformation processes.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering, product, and business leaders to align platform development with business objectives.
  • Drive the adoption of best practices in data engineering, and software development.
  • Lead the development and evolution of our next-generation, storage mechanisms for our large data sets (Data Lake, Data Warehouse or Operational Data Store), enabling seamless data ingestion, processing, and analysis.
  • Architect and implement scalable data pipelines, optimizing for latency, cost, and throughput.
  • Define and enforce data management practices, including data modeling, ETL, and data warehousing principles.
  •  Liaise with leaders from individual data domains to understand business priorities and drive data asset efforts from inception to release management.
  • Lead and manage the Database Administration function, providing guidance to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance.
  •  Monitor data transformation efforts for accuracy, reliability and performance.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required in information science, data management, computer science or related field preferred.
  •  10+ years' experience in IT role, specializing in data engineering
  •  Demonstrates problem solving ability that allows for effective and timely resolution of system issues including but not limited to production outages.
  •  Strong, hands on experience in Data Modeling and Data Architecture with knowledge of modern approaches to Data Management
  •  Experience in setting up Data Quality and Data Governance frameworks that are part of Data Engineering
  • Ability to lead small to medium sized hybrid teams including vendors.
  • Ability to evaluate risks and provide recommendations / solutions in a timely manner.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and written communication skills
  • 8+ years of SQL and additional querying on big data systems
  • 5+ years of Data Modeling for defined business requirements
  • 7+ years of ETL experience on any technology stack, preferably SQL and IBM
  • 2+ years of working hands on cloud Data Engineering solutions preferred.
  • Familiarity with data platforms like Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift, Airflow, Cognos, SQL, etc. preferred.
  • Experience working with regulatory compliance frameworks such as GDPR and CCPA preferred.
