Location: Redmond, Washington (Onsite)
COMPENSATION: $64 - $74 HOURLY
Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated Systems Engineer to execute battery validation activities supporting satellite development and production. This position focuses on battery power testing with an emphasis on test automation, hardware, and Python programming skills. The role is responsible for executing battery tests, performing root cause analysis on test failures, analyzing large datasets, documenting technical findings, and communicating results to engineering stakeholders. The ideal candidate is hands-on in the lab, comfortable with complex electro-mechanical systems, and adept at using data to solve engineering problems.
Key Responsibilities
  • Execute battery pack validation testing, including functional, environmental, electrical, and reliability tests.
  • Develop automated test sequences for routine or overnight testing using Python and modern test hardware such as power supplies and DC loads.
  • Perform systematic Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on hardware, test systems, and failures using structured engineering methodologies.
  • Support troubleshooting of battery test equipment, instrumentation, and automated test systems.
  • Analyze large volumes of battery performance and telemetry data to identify trends, anomalies, and failure mechanisms.
  • Develop clear technical reports summarizing test results, engineering findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
  • Present technical findings to cross-functional stakeholders and support engineering design reviews.
  • Identify opportunities to improve test methods, automation, data analysis workflows, and laboratory efficiency.
  • Assist in developing test procedures, work instructions, and validation plans.
  • Ensure all testing activities comply with laboratory safety requirements and standard operating procedures.
Required Qualifications
Education: A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline is required.
Experience: 3+ years of engineering experience in test, validation, manufacturing, or product development is required.
Technical Skills: Candidates must have experience executing engineering test plans, documenting technical results, and performing data analysis using Python, JMP, or similar tools. Functional competency in coding, hardware selection, and troubleshooting is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience testing lithium-ion battery systems or battery management systems (BMS).
  • Experience performing Root Cause Analysis using methodologies such as 5 Why, Fishbone Diagram, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), or Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Experience with laboratory instrumentation, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, electronic loads, power supplies, DAQ systems, and CAN Bus tools.
  • Hardware-in-the-loop experience.
  • Familiarity with Python scripting for test automation or data processing.
  • Experience working in the aerospace, automotive, or consumer electronics industries.
  • Experience using issue tracking and documentation tools such as Jira.
Work Environment
This role is designated as 100% onsite to facilitate hands-on lab work and collaboration. The successful candidate will demonstrate Ownership, Bias for Action, and the ability to Deliver Results while working independently across different parts of the team.
