Job description

e2Companies is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join the Research and Development team to support the advancement of next generation energy storage, high voltage power infrastructure, and integrated generation technologies. This role will work closely with senior technical leadership to support system architecture development, battery and protection strategy design, high voltage testing methodologies, and proprietary control and modeling platforms. The Senior Systems Engineer will contribute to both theoretical research and practical implementation, ensuring scalable system design, validation rigor, and long-term technical continuity. The ideal candidate brings strong academic grounding in power systems or electrochemical systems, combined with hands-on laboratory, modeling, and software development experience, and demonstrates readiness to assume increasing technical ownership within a growth-stage innovation environment.
This position requires full-time, on-site employment at our Bonita Springs, Florida headquarters. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates willing relocate to Southwest Florida.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Research and System Architecture
  • Lead and support research and development activities related to battery systems, high voltage insulation systems, and grid-interactive power architectures.
  • Evaluate system components and recommend architectures, formulations, and design modifications to meet product performance, safety, and lifecycle requirements.
  • Evaluate high energy active materials and cell architectures, integrating material selection and formulation into system-level performance objectives.
  • Conduct ongoing technical literature research to inform material selection, degradation modeling, and system design strategies.
  • Engage with suppliers and technology partners to evaluate emerging materials, components, and system integration strategies.

Battery and Laboratory Development
  • Specify and test prototype cells or subsystems, quantitatively analyzing performance to support design decisions.
  • Define, validate, and standardize laboratory test procedures, equipment configurations, and experimental protocols.
  • Design and execute laboratory validation programs including insulation testing and analysis, electromagnetic compatibility evaluation, and cycle life testing.
  • Apply diagnostics, failure mode, and contingency analysis to identify root causes of performance limitations and generate technically sound corrective solutions.
  • Champion environmental health and safety standards within laboratory and validation environments.

Modeling, Software, & Controls
  • Perform modeling and simulation of power systems, transient events, protection coordination, and degradation mechanisms using MATLAB or equivalent analytical tools.
  • Develop and maintain engineering software tools and internal platforms in C# to support system modeling, data analysis, automation, and algorithm implementation.
  • Contribute to control logic development and system-level algorithm design for energy storage and distributed generation platforms.
  • Collaboration, Leadership & Governance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams to translate research findings into deployable, production-ready systems.
  • Mentor laboratory technicians and junior engineers to ensure high quality execution and technical understanding of experimental work.
  • Support technical documentation, validation reporting, intellectual property development, and structured knowledge transfer processes.
  • Present research findings and technical recommendations to executive leadership and internal stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (MUST-HAVE)
  • Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Energy Systems, Electrochemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in power systems, power electronics, energy storage, or related infrastructure environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in laboratory testing, system validation, and performance modeling within an industrial R&D setting.
  • Strong understanding of insulation systems, transient behavior, protection strategies, and degradation mechanisms.
  • Professional experience developing engineering applications or analytical tools in C#.
  • Experience with MATLAB or similar modeling and simulation platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to design experiments that produce clear, data-driven outcomes supporting engineering decisions.
  • Strong analytical reasoning, structured documentation practices, and ability to operate with high technical accountability.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (NICE-TO-HAVE)
  • Experience with lithium-based battery systems and battery management architectures.
  • Background in electromagnetic compatibility testing or high transient environments.
  • Experience with distributed generation systems, microgrids, or grid modernization initiatives.
  • Exposure to computational electromagnetic modeling or advanced power system simulation tools.
  • Experience contributing to patent development or proprietary technology platforms.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Work is performed in a combination of office, laboratory, manufacturing, and limited field environments.
  • Occasional exposure to high voltage equipment, battery modules, switchgear, and laboratory testing apparatus.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and use hands and arms for extended periods during testing and validation activities.
  • Ability to safely work around energized systems while following all required safety procedures and personal protective equipment standards.
