Job description

Research, write, and refine science-based transportation content that moves cleanly from expert review to public use. The Technical Writer-Editor works with engineers, developers, and researchers to shape magazine features, newsletters, technical reports, user manuals, and system documentation. You'll manage each product from outline and interviews through final print or web publication.What You'll Do
  • Translate highway and surface transportation data, methods, engineering concepts, schematics, and findings into clear, accurate content for technical and public audiences.
  • Perform substantive editing, rewriting, fact-checking, reference checking, data verification, and version control.
  • Apply the GPO Style Manual and Chicago Manual of Style; meet Section 508 accessibility requirements and manage copyright permissions.
  • Conduct source research and interview subject-matter experts.
Requirements
  • 5-10 years of professional technical writing, editing, and publishing experience.
  • Advanced command of grammar, typography, technical synthesis, and complex review cycles.
  • Transportation research experience, especially highway and surface transportation, highly preferred.
  • Must be located in the DC Metro area
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to pass a Public Trust Clearance and Background Check
Education
Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Journalism, or a related scientific or technical field. Advanced study in editorial standards or transportation research preferred.
