What are Data DevOps professionals?

Data DevOps professionals are specialists who bridge the gap between data engineering and DevOps practices. They focus on automating, optimizing, and managing data pipelines, infrastructure, and workflows to ensure reliable and scalable data delivery. Their responsibilities often include integrating data tools with CI/CD processes, maintaining data security, and enabling collaboration between data teams and operations. By applying DevOps principles to data platforms, they help organizations deliver data-driven solutions more efficiently and with higher quality.

How does a Data DevOps professional typically collaborate with data engineers and data scientists on projects?

As a Data DevOps professional, you play a crucial role in bridging the gap between data engineering, data science, and operations teams. You’ll work closely with data engineers to automate data pipelines, ensure continuous integration and deployment, and maintain robust data infrastructure. Collaboration with data scientists often involves streamlining model deployment, monitoring data workflows, and troubleshooting issues to ensure that analytical solutions can be quickly and reliably put into production. Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving are key for fostering effective teamwork across these disciplines.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Data DevOps professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data DevOps professional, you need a solid background in data engineering, automation, and cloud infrastructure, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP is typically required, alongside experience with CI/CD pipelines and data pipeline orchestration systems like Airflow. Strong problem-solving skills, collaboration, and effective communication help you bridge the gap between data engineering and operations teams. These skills ensure efficient, reliable, and scalable data systems that support organizational analytics and business goals.

What is the difference between Data Devops vs Data Engineer?

Job description

Job Summary:
Scotiabank is a leading bank in the Americas, and they are seeking a Senior Data Developer to join the Investment Data Hub team. This role involves taking a lead technical position in the development of the IDH platform, focusing on data pipelines, integrations, and platform configurations for centralized investment data management.
Responsibilities:
• Design, develop, and maintain data ingestion pipelines, transformation workflows, and business rules within the Opus EDM platform
• Build and manage integrations between the IDH and upstream data vendors as well as downstream investment management systems including Charles River Development (CRD), SimCorp Dimension, Eagle PACE, and BarraOne
• Implement and maintain EDM workflow configurations, data mastering rules, enrichment logic, and automated data quality controls
• Develop and maintain API-based and file-based data feeds supporting the broader IDH ecosystem and downstream consumers
• Collaborate with Senior BSAs and solution architects to translate functional requirements into robust technical designs and scalable data models
• Lead root cause analysis on data pipeline failures, platform incidents, and data quality issues; implement fixes and preventive controls
• Lead code reviews, define and enforce engineering standards, and drive continuous improvement of CI/CD pipeline practices
• Mentor junior and intermediate developers; contribute to technical documentation, architecture decision records, and platform runbooks
• Engage with Gresham (Opus EDM vendor) on platform upgrades, technical escalations, and roadmap planning
Qualifications:
Required:
• 7+ years of hands-on development experience, with a minimum of 4 years directly on Markit EDM / S&P Global EDM / Opus EDM — including workflow development, platform configuration, scripting, and data mastering
• Deep SQL expertise: complex queries, stored procedures, query performance tuning, and data reconciliation at scale
• Proven experience designing and building integrations with downstream investment management platforms — specifically Charles River Development (CRD), SimCorp Dimension, Eagle PACE, and/or BarraOne
• Strong proficiency in Python or equivalent scripting language for automation, data processing, and operational tooling
• Solid understanding of investment data domains: securities reference data, pricing, corporate actions, benchmarks, and NAV/fund data
• Demonstrated experience in technical leadership: conducting code reviews, defining standards, and mentoring team members
• Experience working in agile/scrum delivery environments within large-scale financial data programs
Preferred:
• Experience with risk data workflows within BarraOne or equivalent factor risk platforms
• Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms: GCP (BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Composer), Azure Synapse, or Databricks
• Familiarity with REST API development and event-driven integration patterns
• Exposure to DevOps tooling: Git, CI/CD pipelines, Docker/Kubernetes containerization
• Prior experience at a Canadian bank, pension fund, or large investment management organization
Company:
Welcome to Scotiabank. Founded in 1994, the company is headquartered in Lomas De Chapultepec, MEX, with a team of 10001+ employees. The company is currently Late Stage.
