Job description

Clio is the global leader in legal AI technology, empowering legal professionals and law firms of every size to work smarter, faster, and more securely.

We are transforming the legal experience for all by bettering the lives of legal professionals while increasing access to justice.

Summary:

We are currently seeking a Senior Developer, Enterprise AI to join our IT team in Canada. This role is also available to candidates across Canada, excluding Quebec. If you are local to one of our hubs (Burnaby, Calgary, or Toronto) you will be expected to be in office minimum twice per week on one of our Anchor Days.

The Senior Developer, Enterprise AI is a hands-on technical leader responsible for building, operating, and evolving Clio's internal AI systems and platforms. Reporting to the Manager, Enterprise AI, this role focuses on delivering reliable, secure, and scalable AI-enabled workflows that integrate deeply with Clio's internal data and tools.

You will work closely with partners across R&D, Go-To-Market, Finance, People, IT, Data Engineering, and Data Insights to turn real business problems into production-grade AI solutions. This role owns the full lifecycle of what they build from design and implementation through monitoring, iteration, and long-term support.

What you'll work on:
  • Design, build, and maintain AI-enabled workflows, services, and applications integrated with Clio's internal data and systems.

  • Implement and operate solutions using modern AI platforms and tooling (e.g., LLM APIs, orchestration frameworks, retrieval systems).

  • Partner with Data Engineering and Data Insights on data modeling, classification, and metadata management (e.g., Databricks, dbt).

  • Contribute to developer accelerator tooling (e.g. standardized tool calling, MCP server configuration)

  • Ensure solutions are observable, reliable, secure, and cost-efficient, with clear monitoring and operational ownership.

  • Contribute to and uphold responsible AI standards, including privacy, security, and compliance requirements.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate ambiguous problems into clear technical designs and shipped solutions.

  • Improve adoption and usability through documentation, internal tooling, and feedback-driven iteration.

  • Act as a technical mentor and thought partner within the Enterprise AI team, helping raise the bar for engineering quality and delivery.

  • Implement and document systems that are auditable and aligned with the organizational risk profile.

What you may have:
  • 4+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or AI systems development.

  • Hands-on experience delivering production-grade systems that integrate data, APIs, and complex workflows.

  • Strong proficiency in Ruby, Python, and experience building services, pipelines, or applications in a cloud environment.

  • Working knowledge of modern data platforms and tooling (e.g., SQL, Databricks, dbt).

  • Experience working with AI/ML or LLM-powered systems (e.g., prompt design, orchestration, retrieval, or model integration).

  • Solid understanding of system design, reliability, observability, and operational best practices.

  • Ability to work effectively with non-technical stakeholders and translate business needs into technical solutions.

  • Experience operating in environments with security, privacy, or compliance constraints.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Demonstrate a keen interest in improving your craft by using AI.

This is a new position.
