Application Developer (Senior Developer) (Tax Commission - GenTax)

Duration: 05+ Months

Job Description:

  • The State of Utah Tax Commission is seeking a talented and experienced developer with extensive knowledge of GenTax systems to work closely with an IT development team supporting Tax Commission applications. This role designs, implements, and optimizes solutions across Motor Vehicle Title and Registration, Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Tax Processing, and Property Tax. As a senior developer, you will play a crucial role in the analysis, design, and implementation of maintenance, upgrade, and new development projects within GenTax (COTS software).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain software applications within the GenTax system using C# and SQL, including writing advanced SQL queries and implementing API services to support business requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Perform code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to application performance, functionality, and integration points.
  • Identify problems or potential problem areas and recommend solutions.
  • Stay updated with the latest technologies and industry trends to propose innovative solutions and improvements.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.

Required Technical Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience designing and developing solutions within the GenTax system, with demonstrated proficiency in SQL and C# using Visual Studio.
  • Proficiency consuming, updating, and creating API services (SOAP and RESTful).
  • Strong experience in functional requirements gathering and translating them into technical requirements through system analysis and workflow/process design.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Solid understanding of Tax Commission business processes in relation to the GenTax system.
  • Experience implementing data conversion processes during software version upgrades.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to mentor team members of all skill levels.
  • Work experience as an IT Architect is a plus.
  • Work Location / Schedule:
  • Onsite at the Tax Commission building; expected weekly hours: 40.
