Position Summary
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY:

The Data Technical Writer is responsible for creating, maintaining, and standardizing technical documentation across the Data & Analytics team. This role works closely with architects, engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to capture detailed solution designs, workflows, and processes. The Data Technical Writer ensures that all data and technology solutions are accurately documented, accessible, and kept current, supporting solution maintainability, scalability, and compliance. This position plays a key role in enabling knowledge transfer, reducing technical debt, and improving transparency of systems and solutions across the organization.

Salary range for this position is $90,593.36 - $105,914.12 with a progressive benefit package.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Performs essential duties and responsibilities in the following areas which may include but are not limited to those listed and are subject to change.
  1. Adheres to the Credit Union's core values and Service Standards in conducting GreenState's mission and vision.
  2. Demonstrates a positive member service (internal and external) focus at all times.
  3. Demonstrates teamwork in all interactions with coworkers and in the completion of all duties and responsibilities.
  4. Ensures confidentiality of member information.
  5. Supports a diverse and inclusive work environment.
  6. Develops and maintains comprehensive technical documentation for data solutions, including architecture diagrams, workflows, configurations, and data flow documentation.
  7. Partners with engineers, data analysts, and architects to translate complex technical solutions into clear, structured documentation.
  8. Establishes and enforces documentation standards, templates, and version control practices for the Data & Analytics team.
  9. Maintains accurate records of current-state and future-state solution designs as systems evolve.
  10. Creates process documentation, runbooks, and support guides for operational and business continuity purposes.
  11. Participates in design and requirements sessions to ensure that documentation is captured alongside solution development.
  12. Reviews solution changes for alignment with standards and ensures all updates are documented prior to production release.
  13. Creates knowledge base articles and training materials to support both internal team members and business users.
  14. Identifies documentation gaps and develops strategies to close them, improving overall knowledge management maturity.
  15. Supports compliance and audit efforts by ensuring accurate system documentation is readily available.
  16. Facilitates onboarding of new team members through accessible and well-organized documentation libraries.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements/Expectations
  1. Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Technical Communication, English, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
  2. Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in technical writing, with at least 3 years specifically focused on data systems, database documentation, or technical data communication.
  3. Strong understanding of data concepts including databases, data warehousing, ETL processes, and data pipelines.
  4. Experience documenting data architecture, data models, API specifications, and database schemas.
  5. Proficiency with SQL and ability to understand and document complex data queries and procedures.
  6. Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms for creating documentation and user guides.
  7. Financial services industry experience preferred.
  8. Experience with Azure cloud services documentation, particularly Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, and Azure Synapse Analytics.
  9. Experience creating technical documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences in data-driven environments.
  10. Proven ability to collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and architects to translate complex technical concepts into clear documentation.
  11. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously.
  12. Ability to work with highly confidential information in a discretionary manner.
  13. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  14. Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision while maintaining quality standards.
  15. Must be bondable.

This position reports to the Manager Data Solutions.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position is not responsible for the supervision of others.
