The Opportunity

The Senior Network Engineer supports the Senior Network Architect in designing, developing, and evolving the enterprise network infrastructure. This role translates business and technical requirements into secure, scalable, and highly available architecture across branch offices, data centers, and cloud environments. The Senior Network Engineer collaborates closely with business, IT, engineering, application, and information security teams, contributing to strategic network designs and modernization initiatives. Responsibilities include implementing modern networking solutions, supporting office moves, troubleshooting, and configuration, while ensuring alignment with organizational goals, performance standards, and security best practices.

The Team

Black & Veatch's Business Enablement consists of critical groups that help enable the organizations people, projects, and businesses to be as successful as possible.   Functions in this group include Digital & Information Technology, Global Finance, Global Human Resources, Legal, Risk Management, and Government Affairs and Real Estate and Building Services. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintains contact and builds relationships with the operating businesses, IT management, IT vendors and technical architects to ensure availability, security, and satisfaction.
  • Assists in identifying new and improved approaches, technologies, tools, templates, and business use cases.
  • Supports deployment and configuration of a complex Network Infrastructure environment
  • Assesses on-prem data centers, office locations, and clouds for network capacity, connectivity, performance, and resiliency.
  • Leads Networking Break-Fix situations with multiple team members including managed service provider partners
  • Maintains broad-based technical and solutions knowledge in key Networking optimization and solution areas including: 
    • Enterprise routing solutions
    • Cisco SDWAN
    • Cisco Catalyst Center
    • Network Segmentation
    • VPN concentration
    • Networking expertise across a Hybrid Cloud Environment (On-Premise, Azure, AWS, OCI)
    • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) / Networking Automation
Management Responsibilities
Supervises work of others. Responsible for hiring, discipline, and pay administration of their subordinates.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Networking - Cloud & On-Premise
  • Understanding network security and firewall policy
  • ITIL environment of formal Change processes, Systems Development Lifecycle processes and of production of requirements documentation and evidence (ServiceNow experience a plus)
  • 2+ years of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC)
  • Extensive understanding of routing architecture
  • Extensive understanding of Cisco networking products
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Technical Skills

  • Advanced knowledge in routing protocols and switching technologies (On-Prem & Cloud) such as (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, OMP, VXLAN)
  • Advanced knowledge of Cisco SDWAN
  • Advanced knowledge of Cisco Catalyst Center
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust Experience technologies
  • Cisco Wireless Experience for Wi-Fi 6E using predictive site tools
  • Network Authentication utilizing Cisco ISE
  • Experience in implementing network observability and monitoring platforms such as Cisco ThousandEyes, Solarwinds Network Performance Monitor, or similar tools.
  • Scripting/Coding and automation using such tools as PowerShell, Python, Ansible, Terraform, etc.

Business Skills

  • Experience in leading the delivery of assessments, development of business cases, and solution architecture. 
  • Experience with multi-phased, complex migration programs that address technology, people / organization, and process change.
  • Strong written skills - able to create concise and structured recommendations for total solutions as well as simplifying systems architectures.
  • Dynamic and engaging presentation style that commands respect, inspires confidence, earns trust, and makes the complex easy to understand.
  • Strong business engagement and customer relationship management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with technical architecture, practical adaptation and implementation, functional deployment, and business ROI focused areas of enterprise infrastructure solutions.
  • Financial fluency which includes working with ROI, cost analysis, and financial statements.
  • Strong command of English

Management Skills

  • Experience leading 3rd party delivery teams in geographically diverse locations
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS and/or MS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years' of relevant experience
