Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Regional Design Manager to join its design team

As a Sr. Regional Design Manager, you will be part of a global engineering leadership team, comprised of highly effective Architects, Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Security and Control Engineers. AWS self-performs engineering on the majority of our capacity delivery projects.

This unique vantage point allows the Design Managers to maintain a close connection with project details and drive project outcomes.
You will have impact on the design direction and ability to improve design delivery for an entire region, while establishing design procedures and protocols for the development of future systems. This role is an opportunity to collaborate with many facets of the AWS organization, external engineering resources and regulatory agencies.

Key job responsibilities
Lead project teams of discipline leads to deliver quality and globally consistent DC designs and maintaining a high level of quality within budget and schedule.
Able to influence internal stakeholders, internal customers (operations), and external consultants to address program wide design changes
Manage escalations
identify multi-disciplinary design decisions
Understanding of design development, design change management, permitting (working with AHJs), and implementation (working with CMs/RFIs/Submittals) lifecycle
Project management skills (critical path schedule management, risk management, quality management, cost management)
Design consultant management including procurement, contracting, deliverable management, and payments
Effectively and consistently communicate with AWS Leadership and external project partners, including the creation, tracking & reporting of metrics related to schedule, cost, and quality Throughout the lifecycle of the project.
Conversant in Amazon LPs.
Manage competing priorities.
Drive speed, quality, and simplification by eliminating rework loops, reducing and automating manual work through standardization and automation.
Create global best practice documentation and facilitate sharing across the globe.
Ability to motivate others to achieve impeccable quality in an explosive growth and deadline-driven environment.
Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with design consultants. Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%. International travel may be needed.

Managing critical path schedules and risk mitigation
Mentoring team members on design standards
Analyzing design optimization opportunities
Reviewing RFIs and submittal responses
