Job description

Commissioning Technician/ Data Center Electrical Commissioning Project

Role purpose

The Commissioning Technician will provide hands-on support to the engineering team throughout the factory testing and commissioning process for modular electrical skids supporting a hyperscale data center environment. The role is focused on structured electrical equipment checkout, point-to-point verification, functional testing, and straightforward commissioning activities under the direction of the Lead and EPMS Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with electrical equipment checkout before formal functional performance testing and commissioning.
  • Perform point-to-point checks, wiring verification, and continuity checks against electrical drawings, schematics, test procedures, and commissioning checklists.
  • Support functional testing of electrical equipment, controls, and associated EPMS monitoring points.
  • Identify wiring, installation, termination, configuration, or equipment deficiencies and escalate issues to the engineering team.
  • Assist with testing and commissioning of switchgear, UPS systems, automatic transfer switches (ATS), transformers, circuit breakers, generators, and power distribution units (PDUs) as required.
  • Use single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and checklists to verify installation completeness and test readiness.
  • Accurately record test results, deficiencies, punch-list items, and maintain required commissioning documentation and test records.
  • Support retesting and verification following correction of deficiencies or failed test items.
  • Assist with basic electrical troubleshooting and fault identification during equipment checkout and functional testing.
  • Follow project electrical safety, LOTO, and site safety requirements and work closely with senior engineers during energized equipment testing or other higher-risk activities.
  • Collaborate with commissioning, engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to support successful completion of Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and equipment release for shipment.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on knowledge of electrical testing and commissioning fundamentals.
  • Experience performing point-to-point testing, wiring verification, equipment checkout, or electrical inspection.
  • Ability to support functional testing and commissioning of electrical power distribution equipment.
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Understanding of electrical safety procedures, test documentation, and accurate recording of commissioning results.
  • Exposure to critical power systems or equipment such as switchgear, UPS, ATS, transformers, circuit breakers, generators, or PDUs is beneficial.
  • Experience in data center commissioning, mission-critical facilities, modular power systems, electrical skids, or industrial electrical environments is beneficial.
  • Experience supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) or pre-shipment equipment validation is advantageous.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fully onsite manufacturing and testing environment and collaborate with commissioning engineers and technical teams.

Project: Hyperscale data center / modular electrical skid commissioning

Location: Ruther Glen, Virginia manufacturing facility – fully onsite

Duration: Approximately 4–5 months

Objective: Commission, validate, test, troubleshoot, and verify factory-built electrical skids and associated critical power distribution equipment before release and shipment.
