Job description

S&P Global Mobility is Mobility Global, encompassing our industry leading brands, CARFAX, automotiveMastermind, Market Scan and Polk Automotive Solutions. As we launch as a newly independent company, we are building our future from the ground up. We are seeking a highly analytical and proactive Senior Tax Analyst to join our corporate tax team. In this role, you will act as a subject matter expert, taking ownership of key aspects of tax compliance, accounting (ASC 740), notice management, and data automation. As an influential team member, you will exercise significant independent judgment to resolve complex tax and technical problems, lead cross-functional data initiatives, and build trusted partnerships across Treasury, IT, General Accounting, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Technical & ASC 740 Compliance Tax Returns & Calculations: Assist in reviewing federal, state, and non-US corporate income tax returns for a multinational consolidated group. Help prepare and review book-to-tax adjustments and US international tax calculations. Financial Reporting (ASC 740): Support quarterly and annual income tax provisions for financial statements. Help draft clear, fully supported tax footnotes, rate reconciliations, and related disclosures.

Research & Planning

Audit Support, Notice Management & Controls

Tax Notice Management: Log, track, and monitor incoming corporate tax notices from federal, state, and local authorities. Investigate GL records and prior-year returns to draft technically accurate response packets. GL Account Reconciliations: Prepare and maintain comprehensive monthly and quarterly GL account reconciliations for tax accounts (e.g., deferred tax assets/liabilities, income tax payable). Tax Payments: Formally initiate, track, and reconcile corporate tax payments with Treasury, securing required management approvals and confirmation documents.

Data Analytics & Process Automation

Data Extraction & Analysis: Extract and manipulate financial data directly from ledger and ERP systems (e.g., procurement, billing, inventory, HR, payroll) to spot inconsistencies in transactional data and complex system logic. Automation Initiatives: Proactively design, test, and implement automated data pipelines to eliminate manual workflows, complex spreadsheet formulas, and VLOOKUP dependencies.

Project Management & Stakeholder Communication

Compliance Calendar: Proactively manage the tax compliance calendar, tracking deliverables from third-party service providers and managing RFIs for global, federal, state, and local filings. Cross-Functional Partnering: Serve as a primary point of contact for ad-hoc requests outside the tax department. Translate complex tax and data logic into clear, actionable business insights for Treasury, IT, Legal, and Accounting leadership.

Key Competencies & Strategic Scope

Specialized Expertise: Recognized as a subject matter expert who interprets business challenges and develops effective solutions aligned with organizational goals. Complex Problem Solving: Capable of resolving highly complex technical tax and data issues while leading initiatives that improve overall performance. Influence & Partnership: Influences cross-functional teams, mentors team members, and builds trusted partnerships to achieve key business results. Independent Judgment: Exercises significant judgment; decisions directly influence multiple teams, projects, and key business objectives.

Qualifications & Skills Required

Technical Skills Accounting Foundation: Strong foundation in core accounting fundamentals and US GAAP (specifically ASC 740). Advanced Excel Capabilities: High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex lookup/reference formulas, pivot tables, and macros. Deadline Management: Proven track record of managing tight statutory timelines across tax authorities, treasury cutoffs, close cycles, and external providers.

Preferred Technical Skills Data & Automation Tools: Hands‑on proficiency with data automation and ETL tools such as Alteryx or Power Query is highly preferred. Tax Software: Experience with enterprise tax systems, particularly Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE tools, is a plus.

Professional & Soft Skills Process Improvement Mindset: Takes initiative to identify manual inefficiencies and propose technical, automated solutions.
