Tekberry is looking for a highly qualified and motivated Data Automation Specialist to work on-site with our client, a top-tier electronic test and measurement company.

Data Collection Tool Developer
Design, build, and support a data collection solution that will begin as an Excel-based tool and later transition to a scalable web application. The initial phase focuses on Excel "Smart Forms" that pull data from Microsoft SQL Server and use macros, VBA, validations, and business rules to guide accurate data entry. The long-term goal is a dynamic, user-friendly web application that improves usability, data quality, maintainability, and process efficiency.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain Excel-based data collection forms integrated with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Create macros, VBA scripts, formulas, validations, and guided workflows to improve data accuracy.
  • Translate business requirements into rules, dependencies, constraints, mandatory fields, and exclusion logic.
  • Design forms that display only relevant fields, selections, and instructions based on business logic.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, validate functionality, and support adoption.
  • Support planning for the future web application, including requirements, data structure, workflow, and user experience.
  • Document functionality, assumptions, requirements, test cases, and support procedures.

Required Technical Experience
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, data validation, structured templates, and macro-enabled workbooks.
  • Hands-on experience with VBA, Visual Basic, or similar scripting languages for Excel automation.
  • Experience connecting Excel or business applications to Microsoft SQL Server or relational databases.
  • Familiarity with SQL or T-SQL for troubleshooting, reporting, validation, and analysis.
  • Ability to implement business rules, dependencies, constraints, mandatory fields, and exclusion logic.
  • JavaScript, TypeScript, JSON, YAML, and Python experience are preferred for future development, automation, and testing.

Testing, Quality, and Deployment
  • Develop and execute unit, scenario-based, regression, and user acceptance testing.
  • Troubleshoot data, macro, rule logic, and workflow issues; identify root causes and resolve defects.
  • Promote changes through development, test, and production environments.
  • Follow Agile Scrum practices, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, demos, and iterative delivery.
  • Ensure solutions are maintainable, documented, and aligned with business requirements.

  • Visual Studio or similar development environments; Angular, React, or similar web frameworks.
  • Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket, Power BI, Report Builder, and Microsoft 365 applications.
  • AI-assisted development tools such as ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, or Claude Code.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience developing Excel-based tools, macro-enabled workbooks, or business process automation solutions.
  • Experience with web application development and object-oriented programming preferred.
  • Experience developing user-friendly tools that collect, validate, and process business data.
