Job description

Location: Chicago, IL Salary: $100,000.00 USD Annually - $125,000.00 USD Annually Description:
Position Summary
We are seeking a Data QA Engineer to own and elevate data quality across our data pipelines, transformations, and analytics outputs. This role is focused entirely on back-end data testing and validation - not UI automation - and partners closely with Data Engineering to ensure accuracy, reliability, and trust in our data.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute automated tests for ETL/ELT pipelines, transformations, and downstream analytics
  • Write and optimize SQL-based validations (reconciliation, integrity, business rules, anomaly detection)
  • Build and maintain regression test suites for critical datasets and dashboards
  • Create deterministic test datasets and golden expected results
  • Investigate data issues end-to-end, from BI reports back to source systems
  • Integrate test automation into CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows
  • Implement data observability and alerting for freshness, volume, distribution, and schema drift
  • Define and track QA effectiveness KPIs
  • Collaborate closely with Data Engineering and BI teams
  • Mentor team members and help establish QA standards and best practices

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Strong experience with automated testing for back-end systems (no UI focus)
  • Expert-level SQL and experience with Python, JavaScript, or C#
  • Experience with data testing frameworks (Great Expectations strongly preferred)
  • Experience validating ETL/ELT pipelines and analytics outputs
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Git)
  • Experience supporting BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau
  • Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills

Why This Role
  • Great flexibility - Hybrid role with 2 days onsite per week.
  • You'll have real ownership over how data quality is implemented, monitored, and scaled across the organization. Your work will directly impact decision-making at the highest levels, and you'll be trusted to lead data QA initiatives that matter.

Ready to Apply?
If you're passionate about automated data testing, love digging into pipelines, and want your work to directly influence business outcomes, apply now. This is a chance to step into a senior role where your expertise is valued immediately - and where you can make a measurable impact from day one.
