Job description

ABOUT THE POSITION The Clark County Department of Aviation (DOA) is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Airport Data Engineer position. This position provides professional support in leading the design, implementation, and maintenance of DOA's data analytics infrastructure, focusing on cloud-based solutions. Further, this position develops and maintains Microsoft Power BI dashboards, reports, and data visualizations that translate a variety of data into actionable business insights.

Additionally, this position collaborates with stakeholders across DOA to define reporting requirements, manage project timelines, and deliver analytical solutions that support informed decision-making at all levels. This is an open and continuous recruitment; scheduling dates will vary depending on when the application was received and reviewed by Employee Services. This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by Employee Services.

THE SALARY FOR THIS RECRUITMENT HAS BEEN CHANGED AND IS NOW IN THE JOB ANNOUNCEMENT. This position is confidential and excluded from membership in the union. Also, this classification is designated exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and is therefore, not eligible for overtime.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a closely related field and six (6) years of full-time professional level experience in data engineering, with a focus on cloud environments. Possession at time of application and maintenance of a Microsoft Certified Azure Data Engineer Associate or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) is preferred and may be substituted for education or experience up to two (2) years.

Additionally, professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to two (2) years. All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Licensing and Certification: AWS Certified Big Data, IBM Certified Data Engineer, Oracle Certified Professional - MySQL, DBA, Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), SAS Certified Bid Data Professional or similar are preferred. Specified positions may require possession of a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of hire.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Creates data pipelines, developing efficient ETL processes, and building scalable data models to support analytical and operational needs of the organization. Works with confidential and organization sensitive data and systems.

Designs, develops and maintains data pipelines and ETL processes in a cloud-based and on-premise environments. Implements and manages data lakes and data warehouses utilizing cloud-based services. Creates and optimizes data models to support stakeholder requirements and analytical needs.

Collaborates with cross-functional teams to define and implement data solutions. Ensures data quality, security, and compliance with industry standards. Optimizes data infrastructure for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.

Troubleshoots and resolves complex data-related issues. Implements real-time data processing solutions for operations monitoring and reporting. Designs and implements data integration strategies to connect various airport systems and external data sources.

Tests, troubleshoots, refines and documents systems; applies quality assurance and security standards to ensure against the loss of data and a minimal interruption of usage in the event of equipment failure. Plans and develops test data to validate new or modified database applications, monitors system performance by the use of appropriate utilities, online capabilities and batch reports. Confers with IT and customer staff to define functional requirements, perform data modeling and implement final products; resolves errors and interface problems and ensures integrated systems in accordance with development standards.

Composes program documentation and user procedures and instructions and assists user departments and staff in implementing new or modified database applications; tracks and evaluates project and systems progress. Serves on a variety of committees, project teams and task forces and provides customer service support as required. Prepares a variety of technical, statistical and narrative reports, letters, memos and other written materials.

Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
