How much do data analyst startup jobs pay per year?
What are some challenges a data analyst might face when working in a startup environment?
Data Analysts in startups often encounter rapidly shifting priorities and limited resources, which require them to adapt quickly and independently manage their work. You may find yourself setting up new data processes from scratch, dealing with incomplete datasets, or balancing multiple projects at once. Collaboration is frequent, as you'll typically work closely with founders, product managers, engineers, and marketers to deliver actionable insights. This environment fosters valuable learning opportunities and skill development, but it also demands flexibility, resourcefulness, and a willingness to take on diverse tasks.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the data analyst startup position, and why are they important?
To thrive as a Data Analyst at a startup, you need strong quantitative skills, proficiency in data manipulation and statistical analysis, and often a degree in a related field like mathematics, statistics, or computer science. Familiarity with tools like SQL, Python, R, Excel, and data visualization platforms such as Tableau or Power BI is highly beneficial, as is experience with cloud-based data storage. Adaptability, problem-solving, and excellent communication skills set standout candidates apart in this fast-paced environment. These capabilities are crucial because startup Data Analysts often wear multiple hats, working cross-functionally to extract actionable insights that directly influence business decisions.
What is a data analyst startup?
A Data Analyst in a startup is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to help drive business decisions. Unlike in larger companies, startup data analysts often wear multiple hats, working with raw, unstructured data, building dashboards, and providing strategic insights. They collaborate closely with product, marketing, and engineering teams to optimize processes and improve business performance. The role requires strong analytical skills, proficiency in SQL, Python, or R, and the ability to adapt quickly to a fast-paced environment. Since startups have fewer resources, data analysts must be proactive, resourceful, and comfortable with ambiguity.

Ford Energy is a newly formed, wholly-owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company dedicated to accelerating U.S. energy independence. Leveraging Ford's century of manufacturing excellence and world-class battery energy storage systems (BESS) technology, Ford Energy designs, manufactures, and services grid-scale and commercial DC battery energy storage systems (BESS). Ford Energy is uniquely positioned to capture the growing demand for reliable, US-built energy storage systems. We are not just building batteries; we are building the infrastructure for the next generation of the American grid.
Â
Why Ford Energy?
At Ford Energy, you have the backing of an industrial manufacturing powerhouse with the agility of a dedicated energy startup offering industry leading technology. We offer a competitive compensation package including performance-based bonuses, Ford vehicle discounts, and the opportunity to shape the energy strategy of one of the world's most iconic brands.
Â
In this position...Â
Ford Energy will be launching a BESS business in 2027 in Glendale, Kentucky. Â The Financial Analyst will be an integral part of the team to build financial processes and partner with the operating team. We are seeking an impact-driven Financial Analyst to spearhead financial strategy, capital allocation, and material cost optimization for our manufacturing plant. In this pivotal role, you will be a financial architect overseeing our plant's two largest financial levers: Capital Expenditures (CapEx) and Material Costs. You will actively partner with Engineering, Procurement, and Plant Leadership to evaluate high-impact capital investments, optimize raw material spend, and identify margin expansion opportunities. This position offers a unique platform to lead high-visibility financial initiatives, challenge operational assumptions, and directly shape the strategic direction and modernization of our advanced manufacturing facility. A successful candidate will be one whom acts as a change agent and is able to leverage technology to build a modern cost operating system. Â This opportunity will be located at the Glendale, Kentucky facility. Â Periodic travel will be required.Â
You'll have...
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or Business Administration
- 3+ years of progressive experience in corporate finance, FP&A, or cost analysis, with a strong preference for experience focusing on capital budgeting or material costing in a manufacturing environment.
- 1+ year of experience with modern analytical and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) or scripting languages (e.g., Python, SQL, PowerApps) to automate repetitive reporting and build interactive dashboards.
- ERP Systems: Hands-on experience navigating and extracting data from major ERP systems (e.g., SAP) to track CapEx, OpEx, purchase orders, and inventory.
- Advanced Spreadsheet Modeling: Expert-level Excel proficiency (e.g., advanced formulas, Pivot Tables, Power Query, etc.) with a demonstrated ability to manipulate, clean, and model large datasets (10,000+ rows) related to material transactions and capital assets.
Even better, you may have...
- MBA or Master's degree in Finance/Accounting
- 5+ years of progressive experience in corporate finance, FP&A, or cost analysis, with a strong preference for experience focusing on capital budgeting or material costing in a manufacturing environment.
You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!
As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice. You can choose what your Ford future will look like: will your story span the globe, or keep you close to home? No matter what you choose, we offer a work life that works for you, including:

Â
This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $86,600-$144,900. Â Â Â
