What is a data analyst rotational program?

A Data Analyst Rotational Program is a structured, entry-level role where participants rotate through different teams or departments within a company. The program typically lasts 12-24 months and provides hands-on experience with data analysis, reporting, and business intelligence tools. Analysts develop technical skills, gain exposure to various business functions, and build a strong foundation for a long-term career in data analytics. This rotational structure allows participants to explore different areas before settling into a permanent role within the organization.

What can I expect from the structure and experience of a data analyst rotational program?

A Data Analyst Rotational Program typically consists of several short-term assignments across different departments or business functions, allowing you to gain exposure to various types of data sets, analytical challenges, and workflows. You'll work closely with diverse teams, support ongoing projects with data-driven insights, and have the opportunity to present your findings to stakeholders. The program is designed to build both technical and business skills, giving you a well-rounded view of how analytics supports decision-making throughout the organization. Upon completion, many participants are well-positioned for permanent roles in specialized analytics teams based on their interests and demonstrated strengths.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a data analyst rotational program, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Data Analyst Rotational Program, you need a solid foundation in statistics, data interpretation, and business acumen, typically supported by a degree in a related field such as mathematics, statistics, computer science, or economics. Familiarity with tools like SQL, Excel, Python or R, and visualization platforms such as Tableau or Power BI is highly valued, and certifications in analytics or data science can be advantageous. Strong communication, adaptability, and problem-solving skills help you excel in dynamic teams and present insights to non-technical stakeholders. These abilities allow you to contribute meaningfully across different business areas and learn quickly during rotational assignments.

2. Monitor and improve data quality, completeness, timeliness, and lineage across systems; implement controls for accuracy and reliability.
3. Apply appropriate access controls and ensure compliance with security and privacy requirements and internal policies.
4. Design, build, and optimize data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes from multiple source systems into enterprise platforms (e.g., Palantir Foundry, cloud data services, SQL data warehouse).
5. Collaborate with data engineers and architects to model datasets (e.g., star/snowflake schemas) and ensure performance, scalability, and reusability.
6. Where applicable, configure and manage ontology/business objects to reflect core processes and support digital twin or operational analytics use cases.
7. Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and self-service analytics; translate business requirements into analytical models and KPIs.
8. Perform advanced analysis to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities; create forecasts as needed.
9. Implement data virtualization or federation techniques (as appropriate) to integrate disparate sources for unified analytics.
10. Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to capture requirements and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.
11. Promote data literacy and self-service adoption; provide training, documentation, and best practices to business users.
12. Investigate and resolve data-related issues; communicate status and remediation plans to stakeholders in a timely manner.
13. Monitor pipeline health and dashboard performance; log, prioritize, and dispatch support tickets using IT support center software.
14. Participate in on-call rotation to troubleshoot and resolve systems issues; perform other duties as assigned.

The salary range for this position is $81,000-$113,300 per year. Final compensation will be determined by location, skills, experience, qualifications, and the career level at which the position is filled.

b. Demonstrated success designing and optimizing data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes and ensuring data quality, integrity, and security across multiple systems.
c. Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (e.g., engineers, business analysts, architects) and mentoring junior data professionals.

3. Technical Skills:
a. Strong proficiency in SQL; experience with Power BI and SSRS.
b. Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and/or Palantir Foundry or comparable platforms.
c. Experience with data modeling (star/snowflake), metadata management, and data cataloging.
d. Working knowledge of Python for analysis; exposure to Spark/Databricks is a plus.

4. Soft Skills:
a. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a customer-centric mindset.
b. Strong communication skills with the ability to promote data literacy and partner effectively with non-technical stakeholders.
