Job description

Job Summary:

Reporting directly to the Director of Institutional Research, the Data Analyst is responsible for the collection, verification, and analysis of institutional data to support university-wide decision-making. This role focuses on transforming raw data from various campus systems into actionable reports and interactive dashboards. The Data Analyst plays a critical role in federal and state compliance (IPEDS), internal retention tracking, and supporting the University with data-driven insights into student success and faculty impact. This position is 100% grant funded for a 3-year period.


Essential Functions:

· Leads the collection, analysis, and communication of institutional data to support informed decision-making, strategic planning, and institutional self-assessment.

· Assists the Director in preparing accurate and timely data sets for mandatory external reporting, including IPEDS, HLC, and the Missouri Department of Higher Education & Workforce Development (MDHEWD).

· Supports the design and maintenance of interactive data visualizations and executive dashboards (Power-BI) to monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

· Conducts regular audits of institutional databases to ensure data "cleanliness" and consistency across different departmental reports.

· Responds to internal requests for specialized data sets from University stakeholders.

· Collaborates on University projects to analyze the effectiveness of specific interventions and high-impact practices.


Minimum Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a Social Science field with a heavy quantitative emphasis.

· 2–3 years of experience in data analysis, preferably in a Higher Education or public sector environment.

· Experience in preparing various accreditation reports with regional and national agencies.

· Demonstrated experience using SQL for data retrieval and at least one major data visualization tool (Power-BI preferred).


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, macros) and working knowledge of statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R, or Python).

· Ability to translate technical data findings into clear, written summaries for non-technical stakeholders.

· Knowledge of relational databases and experience reporting from large databases (e.g. basic SQL querying).

· High level of accuracy in data entry and reporting, recognizing that this data informs university funding and accreditation.

· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook).

· Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

· Excellent written and verbal skills, including writing and editing research reports, creating charts and graphs with the ability to communicate effectively orally.

· Deep understanding of student privacy laws and best practices for handling sensitive institutional data.

· Ability to manage multiple reporting deadlines simultaneously while maintaining high standards of data validity.
