Job description

The Data Analyst III turns data into insights that inform decisions and drive profit. The Data Analyst identifies opportunities and challenges as well as their solutions across multiple departments, to support critical and strategic decisions of CorVel.

This is a hybrid position but travel to Irvine, CA once yearly is required as well as travel to Irvine, CA for training within first 30 days of hire.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs advanced data cleaning and analysis including understanding of hypothesis testing (ANOVA, chi-squared etc.) and multivariate modelling techniques
  • Provides strategic and tactical support to the organization by analyzing and interpreting data to relay actionable recommendations at all levels with consideration for growth, cost reduction and optimization of operational performance
  • Analyzes results of collected data using statistical tools and provides ongoing reports
  • Identifies and interprets trends or patterns in complex data sets
  • Transforms data and conducts in-depth root-cause-analyses to provide meaningful insights; consolidates findings into concise visuals, tables, text, etc.
  • Recognizes and resolves data anomalies
  • Works closely with internal customers such as DBAs, Data Scientists, and other business stakeholders to build relationships; continuously gaining a deeper understanding of relevant data and processes to build analytical solutions that meet business needs
  • Works with stakeholders to create BRD with minimal direction
  • Responsible for moving projects through SDLC with minimal direction
  • Produces dynamic, meaningful, clear, and informative reports and/or dashboards to help executive management solve highly complex problems by using standard business intelligence tools and resources as well as following established protocols
  • Participates in report development, specification design, and the facilitation of report testing
  • Presents complex analyses in a succinct and easily understandable format to non-technical and technical stakeholders
  • Conducts preliminary research of new tools/software capabilities for future use
  • Helps guide junior team members
  • Cross collaboration with other technical and non-technical departments
  • Additional duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Intermediate proficiency in SQL required with the ability to perform stored procedures, temp tables, sub queries, variables, unions, CTE's, apply operator, while loops, etc.
  • Basic to Intermediate Power BI understanding and proficiency, such as creating data models, creating advanced dashboards with bookmarks, cross filtering, etc.
  • Advanced Excel Reporting: Mastery of Excel functions, including pivot tables, advanced data analysis, and complex formulas
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with one or more programming languages required, such as R, STATA, MATLAB, Python, etc. with the ability to utilize the language for data manipulation, statistical analysis, and automation
  • Understanding of Project Management principles and SDLC
  • Understanding of machine learning techniques and predictive modelling
  • Expertise in data cleaning, transformation to prepare data for analysis
  • Ability to understand business objectives and translate data insights into actionable recommendations
  • Presentation skills required; comfortable presenting data findings to both technical and non-technical audiences and explaining dashboards/reporting/findings to management while handling audience questions appropriately
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to innovate and think outside the box to find creative solutions and optimize current processes
  • Strong interpersonal, time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
  • Understanding of CorVel’s services, from both a data perspective and to anticipate reporting needs from internal and external customers

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • 3-5+ years of experience in data analysis
  • 3 or more years of experience with SQL
  • 1 or more years of experience in Power BI or similar tool (e.g. Tableau)
  • 3+ years of experience with one or more programming languages, such as R, STATA, MATLAB, Python etc.
  • 3+ years of project management experience
  • College degree, preferably in a quantitative field (equivalent experience may be substituted for degree)

PAY RANGE:

CorVel uses a market based approach to pay and our salary ranges may vary depending on your location. Pay rates are established taking into account the following factors: federal, state, and local minimum wage requirements, the geographic location differential, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, internal employee equity, and market conditions. Our ranges may be modified at any time.

For leveled roles (I, II, III, Senior, Lead, etc.) new hires may be slotted into a different level, either up or down, based on assessment during interview process taking into consideration experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role. The level may impact the salary range and these adjustments would be clarified during the offer process.

Pay Range: $92,673 – $143,587
