Job description

In-Person Educational Interpreter – Dari

Location: Nassau County, New York
Job Type: Part-time, as needed
Starting Pay: $35.00 per hour
 

Position Overview

NTC Language Services is seeking reliable and professional English/Dari Educational Interpreters for part-time, as-needed employment. A specific number of assignments or weekly hours is not guaranteed.

Interpreters will provide in-person interpretation services in Nassau County, New York.

Educational Interpreters facilitate clear, accurate, and culturally responsive communication among students, families, educators, administrators, and other school professionals.

This position requires candidates who are available to travel to and attend assignments in person. We are specifically recruiting in-person candidates for Nassau County, NY. This is not a remote-only position.

Assignments are offered as needed based on language, location, qualifications, experience, and availability.

Job Responsibilities

As an In-Person Educational Interpreter, you may provide interpretation for:

  • Parent-teacher conferences

  • Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings

  • Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) meetings

  • Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings

  • Student evaluations and intake meetings

  • Student registration and enrollment appointments

  • School orientations and workshops

  • Family engagement events

  • Guidance and counseling meetings

  • Disciplinary and administrative meetings

  • Testing and other school-based assignments

Educational Interpreters are expected to:

  • Interpret accurately and completely between English and Dari.

  • Preserve the meaning, tone, and intent of all communication.

  • Remain neutral and avoid adding, omitting, or changing information.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding students, families, and school matters.

  • Arrive on time and remain for the full duration of each accepted assignment.

  • Communicate professionally with NTC Language Services, families, and school personnel.

  • Follow all applicable NTC Language Services, school, and district policies.

  • Dress in appropriate business-casual attire unless otherwise instructed.

Language Proficiency Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be able to read, write, and speak proficiently in both English and Dari.

  • Interpret spoken communication accurately and completely between both languages.

  • Understand written information and communicate it accurately when required.

  • Demonstrate strong listening, comprehension, and communication skills.

  • Be comfortable learning and using educational and special education terminology.

In-Person Availability Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be available to attend scheduled assignments in person in Nassau County, New York.

  • Have reliable transportation or another dependable means of traveling to assignment locations.

  • Be able to arrive punctually at schools and other educational facilities.

  • Be willing to travel within the designated service area.

  • Provide accurate and current availability.

  • Understand that remote-only availability will not meet the requirements of this position.

Additional Qualifications

Successful candidates must:

  • Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and professionalism.

  • Maintain neutrality and confidentiality.

  • Demonstrate cultural awareness, sensitivity, and sound judgment.

  • Communicate promptly regarding assignment offers, scheduling, and attendance.

Previous interpreting experience is preferred but not required. Experience in education, special education, human services, healthcare, legal services, or community interpreting is especially valuable.

Relevant interpreter training, certifications, and knowledge of educational or special education terminology are preferred.
