Job description

The Sun Prairie YMCA is looking to add some great lifeguards to our Aquatics Department. Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Lifeguard actively provides a safe environment and accountability of all members and guests by maintaining constant surveillance of the pool area and responding to emergencies in accordance with the mission, strategic plan, goals and all policies and procedures of the YMCA of Dane County, Inc. and the Y-USA Best Practices. Work for the YMCA and receive a free YMCA membership!
Hours Available:
  • Early Morning guards: Monday - Friday 4:45am-9:00am
  • Daytime guards: Monday - Friday 9:00am-4:00pm
  • Closing Evening guards: Monday - Friday 7:00pm-8:30pm
  • Evening & Weekend hours also available
  • Schedule changes each session (every 7-8 weeks)
  • Available to work a minimum of one shift per week - Average shift ranges from 2-4 hours

*Summer Hours from Memorial Day to Labor Day will affect closing times/shift times.
Job Requirements:
  • Requires ability to demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Requires ability to professionally and effectively communicate with members, staff and supervisors; maintain confidentiality and exchange accurate information.
  • Requires ability to effectively interact with, lead, and motivate members who have a variety of abilities and needs.
  • Ability to maintain certification level of physical and mental readiness at all times.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is preferred.
  • Possess or obtain within the indicated time frame the following certifications and keep all certifications current:
    • Current Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid certification upon hire.
    • Y Orientation, Child Abuse Prevention, and Blood Borne Pathogen training required within 60 days of hire.
