Job description

Heidelberg University is accepting resumes for an adjunct pool in the performing arts, specifically in the fields of Music and Theatre. An Adjunct Instructor in the School of Music and Theatre provides instruction to undergraduate students in the following course subjects: art, music (including private lessons), theatre, dance, and/or set design. Adjunct instructors will teach part-time on an as-needed basis and should be willing to teach in a variety of formats, including in-person, hybrid, and online, and at varied class times that may include evenings according to program needs.

Applications will be accepted into the pool on an ongoing basis.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Adjunct Instructor in the School of Music and Theatre will:

  • Teach courses in art, music (including private lessons), theatre, dance, and/or set-design as needed in Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters based on candidate expertise and qualifications. Courses could be assigned as in-person or online instruction. 
  • Utilize innovative and collaborative teaching methods in support of the School’s mission and learning objectives.
  • Perform other essential duties as assigned/as outlined in the Faculty Manual

Desired Attributes and Qualifications

Education and Professional Experience:

  • Master’s Degree or appropriate professional experience in a related field.
  • Teaching/Instructional experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. or ABD in a related field
  • Documented background in the related instructional area.
  • Two years of college-level teaching experience.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:  Knowledge of operation and use of various office equipment, including, but not limited to:  personal computer, including spreadsheet and word processing software, integrated database software, fax machines, copier, telephone, scanner, and printers.  A valid driver’s license may be required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use arms, hands and fingers to operate and manipulate equipment generally found in an office setting.  The employee may be frequently required to be mobile, communicate, and hear.  The employee may occasionally be subject to a variety of outdoor environmental conditions including heat, cold, and precipitation.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than fifty (50) pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Mental demands include varied degrees of occasional stress while performing job duties.
