Job description

Position Title: Cheer Assistant Coach
Reports To: Building Principal/Athletic Director
Location: Southfield A&T High School
Start Date/End Date: August 2026-October 2026 (2026-2027 School Year - FALL ATHLETICS)
Salary: $1,400.00 Stipend per the SEA CBA (paid at the end of the season based on the payment calendar)
Job Summary:





The Cheer Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting with organizing, planning, and supporting the cheerleading program. This includes teaching cheers, stunts, and dance routines; promoting school spirit; always ensuring safety; and fostering teamwork, discipline, and leadership among team members. The coach will work closely with the athletic department, school administration, and parents to support athletic events, competitions, and school functions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and conduct practices focused on cheer techniques, stunting, tumbling, and performance.
  • Lead the cheer team in promoting school spirit at games, pep rallies, and special events.
  • Choreograph routines for halftime shows, assemblies, and competitions.
  • Always emphasize safety, particularly during stunts and tumbling activities.
  • Promote positive team culture, including sportsmanship, responsibility, and leadership.
  • Ensure all participants meet eligibility, academic, and attendance requirements.
  • Manage uniforms, equipment, and team fundraising efforts.
  • Maintain open and professional communication with student-athletes, parents, and school staff.
  • Supervise athletes during all practices, games, competitions, and travel (if applicable).
  • Support and enforce all school, district, and league policies.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience as a head cheer coach at the high school or club level or higher required.
  • Knowledge of cheer techniques, stunts, and performance skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate skills and drills and routines.
  • Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.
  • Must be able to supervise and motivate students in a positive manner and fully experienced in MHSAA guidelines. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience coaching  high school, or competitive level or higher.
  • Experience with music editing and choreography.
