Job description

Friends University is seeking part-time, adjunct instructor in dance to join the music theatre faculty for the 26/27 academic year on our Wichita campus. Friends University is seeking experienced dance instructors for courses in foundational and musical theatre dance styles. Courses include semester-length training in beginning ballet, contemporary, and additional foundational styles, with advanced courses in jazz, tap, and musical theatre. Additional compensation may be available as a coach/choreographer for various performances on campus, including as the lead organizer of our annual dance showcase. Funding is also available for students to travel and participate at regional dance conferences/conventions. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in a variety of dance styles and will be an active and engaging presence in the dance studio. This position is ongoing for teaching in the fall and spring semesters.
DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Teach all class meetings per the published schedule.
• Ability to perform and demonstrate a variety of dance styles.
• Invite guest teachers/clinicians to the class as appropriate.
• Communicate regularly and effectively with relevant parties (i.e. supervisor, program colleagues, and students)
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:• Demonstrate excellence of technique and professionalism as a dancer.• Communicate clear expectations for course objectives, and in collaboration with other instructors and students.• Be able and willing to represent the university in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, and the community we serve.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:• Contribute original choreography for productions as needed.• Prepare student numbers and direct the annual Dance Showcase.• Work with the division chair on the possibility of attending dance conferences or securing performance opportunities in the community.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in dance or dance pedagogy.
  • Demonstrated experience relevant to the teaching demands of the position.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in dance or dance pedagogy.
  • Ability to demonstrate artist-level performance in both traditional and popular dance styles.
  • Prior experience teaching dance curricula at the college level.
