Description

Position Summary:

The Daily Living Specialist at HAVEN's residential shelter creates an open and empowering environment to interact, educate, and support individuals with their daily living activities. They will share recipes, organizational strategies, and cleaning tips to promote health and safety for each individual. They will ensure the kitchen and all its related operations run efficiently, within budget and in accordance to all compliance regulations.


Shift: Tuesday-Saturday, 1pm-9pm


Responsibilities:

  • Creatively share life enrichment skills with individuals
  • Facilitate interactive groups regarding nutrition, meal planning, and daily living skills
  • Meet with individuals who would like to expand their knowledge in areas of cooking, cleaning, organizing, home budgeting, and other identified daily living activities
  • Support individuals with their daily living activities during their stay at HAVEN
  • Create a balanced diet daily menu
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen
  • Ensure compliance for inspectors
  • Obtain, manage, and organize food, personal needs, and shelter supply inventory, within budget, working with food banks and suppliers
  • Provide transportation to residents as defined by program needs
  • Assist with maintaining a clean facility and assuring all rooms are appropriate for client services
  • Complete appropriate documentation for funding sources and to maintain accurate records
  • Provide front desk coverage and crisis line telephone coverage as assigned
  • Assist with general shelter activities and responsibilities when needed
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements

Core Competencies:

  • Ability to work well under pressure and in stressful situations.
  • Demonstrated trauma informed approaches to service delivery.
  • Ability to educate and empower victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault who are from diverse backgrounds and who may face multiple barriers.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to work in a role consistent of manual work and lifting and carrying 40 pounds.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to assist with general cleaning and upkeep of the shelter.


Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Working knowledge of nutrition and the ability to cook required.
  • Food safety and handling certificate (ServSafe or equivalent) required.
  • Experience working in a communal living environment strongly preferred.
