Aspen Waste Systems of Iowa is a privately-owned, growing company providing waste and recycling collection services for commercial and residential customers in the Des Moines and Ames metropolitan area.
Aspen Waste Systems of Iowa is currently accepting applications from career-minded individuals to join our administrative team as a Dispatcher/Customer Service Representative. This position offers qualified candidates the opportunity to join a dedicated staff that performs important work processes for Aspen's Iowa hauling operation.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
Aspen Waste Systems' Dispatchers and Customer Service Representatives communicate with Aspen Waste Drivers to assist with problem resolution while on route for residential, commercial and roll-off lines of business. Dispatcher/Customer Service Representatives handle a large volume of incoming calls from customers, direct drivers as needed, and resolve customer service related issues. Duties include:
  • Handles a large volume of incoming calls and addresses the customer inquiry in an efficient and professional manner.
  • Dispatches drivers to calls as they are received, using information on customer needs, drivers' locations and loads, and daily factors to balance cost and speed of response.
  • Utilizes radio system and tablet communication tools to communicate with Drivers
  • Documents customer inquiries accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Performs customer account maintenance as required.
  • Assigns routes and service tickets to appropriate Drivers throughout the day and for the next day; close service tickets each day.
  • Initiates outbound calls to customers while drivers are on-site/location, resolving pick-up and other service issues.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves potential issues before they result in service issues.
  • Ensures same-day service on missed pick-ups by coordinating Driver movement in the field.
  • Other duties as required.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma required. Post secondary education preferred.
  • Excellent telephone skills
  • Proficient in the use of a PC with the ability to learn unique software applications
  • Ability to recognize problems and resolve them successfully
  • Ability to multi-task with conflicting requirements and deadlines
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to think independently and handle customer inquiries efficiently and professionally
  • A knack for learning quickly on the job
  • Successful experience in the service industry with a passion for building customer loyalty is strongly preferred
