Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with production teams set top candidates apart. What are some common challenges faced by Dailies Operators, and how can they be managed effectively?

Dailies Operators often work with tight deadlines and large volumes of footage, making time management and attention to detail critical. One common challenge is ensuring flawless synchronization and color accuracy across multiple formats, which requires strong technical skills and a keen eye for quality control. Collaboration with editors, cinematographers, and production staff is frequent, so clear communication is essential to address any issues quickly. Staying organized and up-to-date with the latest post-production software and workflows can help Dailies Operators overcome these challenges and deliver high-quality results efficiently.

What are Dailies Operators?

Dailies Operators are professionals in the film and television industry who manage and process daily raw footage shot during production, known as 'dailies.' Their responsibilities include ingesting, syncing audio, color correcting, and preparing the footage for viewing by directors, editors, and producers. This process helps the creative team review what was filmed each day, spot any issues, and make informed decisions about reshoots or adjustments. Dailies Operators often work with specialized software and need to ensure that the footage is backed up and delivered securely and on time.

Job description

At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what's next.
At Netflix, we want to entertain the world and are constantly innovating on how entertainment is imagined, created, and delivered to a global audience. Engineering teams within Netflix work hard every day to scale and innovate content production and member experiences in an ever-growing complex software landscape.
Our Content & Business Products (CBP) Engineering teams build the products and services to optimize and automate the content creation process including content planning, financing, production, promotion, and distribution. We support Netflix's enterprise needs including Finance, Talent, Tech Support, and Customer Support to ensure smooth operations. Our products enable the entire workflow of content production, from pitch to play, and provide innovative new ways to develop and manage entertainment at scale. The team's work is critical to supporting the creation of movies and TV series that will thrill the world!
Qualifications
  • You have 5+ years of experience crafting resilient, high-scale, low-latency, distributed microservices in production environments.
  • Proficient with gRPC, GraphQL, or RESTful API design and implementation.
  • Have recent proficient experience with Java, C#, or other OO programming languages with a solid understanding of OO design principles, concurrency, multi-threading, performance tuning, and observability.
  • Have a proven track record in architecting, building, and operating distributed systems with high availability, fault tolerance, and performance.
  • Have solid experience in setting technical directions for engineering projects, making architectural decisions, and influencing partner and cross-functional teams.
  • Have the ability to proactively describe complex technical concepts to a variety of stakeholders, driving conversations and decisions through written and/or verbal communication.
  • Participate in our on-call rotation and lead the incident reviews.

What Sets You Apart
  • Curious about a broad range of new or unfamiliar technologies, the consumer base, and product vision.
  • Seek different perspectives, feedback, and relevant information to continuously grow and improve.
  • Maintain strong relationships with cross-functional teams through clear communication.
  • Take a thoughtful, practical approach to problem-solving that considers tradeoffs and avoids over-engineering.
  • Comfortable asking questions and seeking knowledge in unfamiliar or ambiguous situations.
  • Endeavor to elevate the knowledge, skills, and abilities of yourself and others that are conducive to fostering an inclusive, collaborative environment.
  • You leverage AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate the software development lifecycle.
  • You actively seek out and vet new AI-driven development tools to boost overall team productivity and operational efficiency.

Spotlight on CBP Engineering Teams:
Creative Workflows
The Media Production Suite (MPS) Creative Workflows team sits at the intersection of filmmaking, large-scale distributed systems, and generative AI. We build cloud-native pipelines that transform petabytes of raw camera footage from sets worldwide into secure, high-quality, color/sound/framing-accurate deliverables that creatives rely on-typically within hours of shooting (these are the "dailies"). Dailies have traditionally been managed by human operators; we're rethinking that end-to-end, using automation and generative AI in every part of the workflow-from intelligent metadata extraction and quality checks to smarter routing, prioritization, and review experiences.
Source Acquisition Platform (SAP)
The Source Acquisition Platform team is responsible for the applications and services touching the acquisition, management, and evaluation of assets such as video, music and effects, subtitles, dubs, and everything used to create shows and movies available on Netflix. Our suite of services is the bedrock for applications used both internally, by Netflix creative employees, and externally by our content and fulfillment partners, creative agencies, and freelancers, curating the best and largest on-demand catalog in the world. Acquisition and Evaluation of audiovisual assets is critical for our success and to provide first-class experience to Netflix members. To achieve that, we work closely with teams in data science, encoding, catalog, and content distribution to ingest, encode, store, manage, and deploy media worldwide.
Localization Technology
The Logistics Management squad is the operational backbone of Netflix's localization platform. We own the tools, workflows, and infrastructure through which every piece of content is ordered, tracked, fulfilled, and paid for - across 2,700 weekly internal users and 180+ external vendors. Our role is to build the platform layer that makes AI-first localization possible. The 18-24 month vision is to automate 70-80% of localization workflows so that human effort shifts from execution to governance and the highest-impact decisions. We are the team that makes that shift real: every workflow we automate, every manual handoff we eliminate, and every vendor dependency we reduce is a step toward localization operating at internet speed. Critically, localization is not downstream of Netflix's content pipeline - it is inside it. Content cannot play for international audiences until it is localized.
