Basic Functions and Scope of Responsibility

The Wellness Instructor is responsible for leading safe, engaging, and effective group fitness classes that cater to a variety of fitness levels and abilities. The instructor creates a motivating and inclusive environment while promoting a healthy lifestyle and encouraging participant retention and satisfaction.

Role Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead group fitness classes (e.g., HIIT, yoga, cycling, strength training, Zumba)in accordance with scheduled formats.
  • Provide modifications and progressions to accommodate different skill levels.
  • Deliver clear instructions and demonstrations to ensure proper form and technique.
  • Monitor participants during classes and respond to safety concerns or injuries.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the group fitness area and equipment.
  • Foster a positive, welcoming environment for all members and guests. 
  • Support association-wide initiatives and assume other duties as assigned. 

Education, Experience & Training 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A knowledge of basic exercise science, biomechanics principles and fitness class leadership are required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Current group exercise certification required
  • Specialized training required for specific classes
  • CPR,AED and First Aid certification obtained within30 days of employment
  • Previous group instruction experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
