Job description

At Bayer we're visionaries, driven to solve the world's toughest challenges and striving for a world where 'Health for all Hunger for none' is no longer a dream, but a real possibility. We're doing it with energy, curiosity and sheer dedication, always learning from unique perspectives of those around us, expanding our thinking, growing our capabilities and redefining 'impossible'. There are so many reasons to join us.

If you're hungry to build a varied and meaningful career in a community of brilliant and diverse minds to make a real difference, there's only one choice. Lead Cyber Security Architect THE MISSION Security should not slow innovation down - it should make it possible. As a Lead Cyber Security Architect at Bayer, you will design the security foundations that allow global teams to build, scale, and innovate with confidence.

From AI and emerging digital capabilities to cloud platforms and applications, you will help make secure design the default whilst enabling the business to move faster and deliver our bold purpose: Health for All, Hunger for None. You'll join the Global Cybersecurity Architecture team building the strategy and foundations of secure system design for the entire enterprise - serving pharma, consumer health, and crop science across R&D, manufacturing, supply chain, and commercial operations globally. We operate with a startup mindset inside a global organization: small squads, fast cycles, high autonomy.

We think about how to get things done - not why they can't be. The primary location for this role will be Creve Coeur, MO (St. Louis, MO metro area).

What you will do As Lead Cyber Security Architect, you will define, guide, and evolve the security architecture that protects Bayer's applications, platforms, infrastructure, cloud environments, AI capabilities, and digital products. You will work across cyber security, IT platforms, engineering, product, and business teams to ensure that security is not a blocker, but truly a catalyst for trusted innovation. Your key responsibilities will include: Shape Bayer's security architecture direction by contributing to and applying Bayer's Architecture Framework for Security across key technical domains, including cloud, network, application, platform, AI, and agentic AI security.

Drive "Security by Default" by creating and maintaining practical security standards, reusable architecture patterns, and guardrails that make doing business securely the easiest way to do business. Enable the secure design for complex environments by acting as an expert reference for globally dispersed teams to develop tailored cyber security architectures. Translate strategy into action by converting business objectives and risk management priorities into clear security controls, architectural decisions, and technology-enabled solutions.

Stay ahead of the threat landscape by monitoring emerging cyber threats, vulnerabilities, technologies, and regulatory expectations - and turning those insights into proactive security recommendations. Foster a unified cyber security approach by leading initiatives, shaping architecture decisions, and helping teams across Bayer manage risk consistently and effectively. What makes this role exciting This role sits at the intersection of strategy, architecture, technology, and transformation.

You will not simply review designs or write standards - you will help define how security works at scale across a global enterprise. You will have the opportunity to influence how Bayer secures emerging technologies, including cloud-native platforms, AI-enabled services, and agentic AI solutions. You will work with talented cyber, platform, engineering, data, and business teams to build security into the fabric of digital delivery.

WHO YOU ARE We care more about how you think than what's on your resume. If you're someone with strong technical credibility, architectural judgement, and the ability to operate confidently in a global enterprise environment, we want to talk. You should bring: A degree in information technology, cyber security, computer science, or a related field - or equivalent professional experience.

5+ years of experience in cybersecurity, previous experience in a security engineering role highly desired. Strong knowledge of cyber security principles, enterprise IT infrastructure, network architecture, cloud security, application security, and secure system design. Proven experience designing security architectures for complex applications, platforms, or enterprise technology environments.

Familiarity with relevant cyber security frameworks, architecture methods, standards, and regulatory expectations. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex cyber security topics clearly to technical and non-technical audiences. The ability to influence across teams, build trusted relationships, and drive alignment between security, technology, and business outcomes.

Preferred experience The following would be highly valued: Demonstrable knowledge and experience in AI security architecture, including agentic AI security concepts and controls. Professional certifications such as CISSP or CISM. This posting will be available for application until at least 7/6/26.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $126,313.00 to $189,470.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc

This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant's location, market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors. #LI-US YOUR APPLICATION Bayer offers a wide variety of competitive compensation and benefits programs. If you meet the requirements of this unique opportunity, and want to impact our mission Health for all, Hunger for none, we encourage you to apply now.

Be part of something bigger. Be you. Be Bayer.
