The Cloud Storage Engineer provisions, configures, and maintains secure, scalable cloud and on-premises storage environments supporting mission systems. This role ensures high performance, availability, and compliance with federal and DoD requirements across hybrid cloud infrastructures, while supporting the modernization and optimization of enterprise storage solutions. The position operates in a dynamic environment requiring strong technical expertise, adaptability, and a focus on continuous improvement and innovation to enhance mission-critical capabilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Track and assess current data recovery and disaster recovery capabilities across both cloud-based and on-premises environments, identifying opportunities to improve processes and increase efficiency.
  • Plan, execute, and document disaster recovery failover activities within cloud infrastructures.
  • Maintain required levels of system uptime and performance for mission-critical applications operating in cloud environments.
  • Design, implement, and manage storage infrastructure components, including storage arrays, fiber channel switches, and data protection solutions, ensuring mission requirements are consistently achieved across hybrid environments.
  • Evaluate, develop, and deploy file sharing solutions aligned with customer needs and operational requirements.
  • Diagnose complex storage-related issues and provide expert guidance on resolving deficiencies across both cloud and on-premises platforms.

  • Create and maintain operational documentation, including policies and procedures, while contributing to the continuous improvement of storage governance practices.
  • Analyze emerging storage technologies and industry best practices, producing recommendations to enhance and optimize existing storage environment
  • Provide cloud-focused security administration support for storage and backup environments, ensuring all infrastructure components comply with DoD and organizational security requirements.
  • Apply and maintain system security updates, including software patches, firmware upgrades, and vendor-recommended security configurations across cloud and hybrid systems.
  • Implement and enforce DISA STIGs, IASE policies, and other security controls to ensure secure configuration of cloud storage and backup platforms.
  • Support security compliance activities, including audits, POA&M development, remediation tracking, and execution of security tasks from DoD stakeholders and technical leadership.
  • Manage and maintain security documentation and services, including PPSM reporting and PKI operations such as certificate lifecycle management and CSR processing.
  • Perform cloud failover and disaster recovery operations for client-hosted applications, including pre-failover validation, execution, post-failover verification, and annual ISCP testing for enterprise file shares within government cloud environments.
  • Execute and support cloud-based disaster recovery testing activities and produce detailed after-action reports documenting results, outcomes, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Conduct cloud vulnerability assessments within NIPRNet and SIPRNet environments, identifying security risks and applying hardening measures aligned with DoD cybersecurity requirements and industry best practices.
  • Analyze and remediate storage and backup vulnerabilities by recommending and implementing configuration changes to improve security posture and operational resilience.
  • Develop, update, and review cloud storage and backup documentation for both NIPRNet and SIPRNet environments to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with operational procedures.

Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Required Experience:
    • 3 years of professional experience in the engineering field, including evaluating, constructing, and integrating enterprise-level storage and backup software technologies.
    • 2 years of hands-on experience with enterprise SAN management, covering Fiber Channel zoning, iSCSI, FCoE, HBA/CNA, storage controllers, LUN management, RAID, and NAS.
    • Hands-on experience with enterprise hierarchical storage system management and backup/restore services using software like Veritas NetBackup.
    • 2 years of experience working with DoD IT systems.
  • Required Certifications:
    • DoD 8570 IAT II Certification.
    • Must also have one of the following Computing Environment certifications:
      • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional
      • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
      • NetApp Certified Hybrid Cloud Administrator
      • NetApp Certified Hybrid Cloud Architect
      • NetApp Certified hybrid Cloud Implementation Engineer
  • Required Security Clearance:
    • Current DoD Top Secret Clearance Required
  • Work Location:
