Position Overview

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cyber Systems Engineer 3 to join its engineering team in San Antonio, Texas.

This position will serve as a Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) within a team developing new solutions for a multi-level security environment. The role focuses on systems engineering with a strong emphasis on cybersecurity and will support the development, integration, assessment, and delivery of mission-critical systems.

The successful candidate will collaborate with systems engineers, cybersecurity professionals, government stakeholders, suppliers, and technical teams to ensure systems meet mission objectives and cybersecurity requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical decisions and guidance supporting high-quality product deliveries and mission objectives.
  • Partner with systems engineers across Integrated Product Teams to address cybersecurity requirements.
  • Support the development and enhancement of Launch and Missile Defense systems.
  • Collaborate with government, industry, suppliers, and cybersecurity teams across multiple locations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable cybersecurity standards and requirements.
  • Develop and propose cyber systems architecture changes with traceability to requirements.
  • Provide cybersecurity implementation guidance and technical oversight.
  • Develop and document engineering processes and procedures.
  • Participate in technical reviews of requirements, designs, implementation plans, computer systems, communications systems, networking devices, and architectures.
  • Perform cyber attack-surface analysis and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
  • Support cybersecurity assessments, security testing, penetration-test planning, and related activities.
  • Review cybersecurity assessment plans, procedures, and reports.
  • Provide input to program milestones, metrics, schedules, and cybersecurity planning.
  • Research and resolve complex technical problems.
  • Apply analytical and evaluative techniques to improve cybersecurity implementation.
  • Solve multidisciplinary problems in an Agile and DevSecOps environment.
  • Support program engineering review boards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of relevant experience, Master’s degree with 3 years, or PhD with 1 year in:
    • Systems Engineering
    • Cybersecurity Engineering
    • Computer Engineering
    • Computer Science
  • Alternatively, 9 years of cyber systems engineering-related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Current, active Secret security clearance required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
  • Ability to obtain an IASAE II certification within six months of hire; CISSP is preferred.
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Experience applying Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to develop and model requirements.
  • Experience managing requirements or systems engineering artifacts using tools such as DOORS, Cameo, or JIRA.
  • Direct experience in one or more systems engineering disciplines, including:
    • Requirements decomposition and derivation
    • Requirements flow-down and traceability
    • System architecture
    • High-level/detail design
    • Implementation
    • Integration and test
    • Verification and validation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing system architectures for complex aerospace vehicles or subsystems using MBSE/SysML.
  • OMG SysML Model User Certification.
  • IASAE Level III certification, such as ISSEP or ISSAP.
  • Top Secret/SCI clearance, with preference for SAP experience.
  • Experience supporting Risk Management Framework (RMF) authorization artifacts and NIST SP 800-37 requirements.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity systems engineering practices and network technologies.
  • Understanding of DoD system development life cycles and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of IT infrastructure management, monitoring, and applications.
  • Experience developing cybersecurity accreditation processes within complex, multi-certification environments.
  • Experience working on systems with Cyber/Information Assurance requirements throughout planning, design, implementation, testing, and delivery.
  • Experience managing technical efforts using Agile and DevSecOps methodologies.
  • Strong ability to negotiate technical requirements, strategies, and competing priorities among diverse stakeholders.

Additional Information

This position is intended to be contract-to-hire and aligns with a full-time Principal Cyber Systems Engineer opportunity. Conversion to a full-time position is the intended path but is not guaranteed.
