Job description

Introduction
As an IBM Consulting FutureNow Center Intern, you'll work alongside experienced professionals to help solve real business and technology challenges for clients around the world. You'll gain hands-on experience, build in-demand technical and professional skills, and contribute to meaningful projects while learning in a collaborative, team-based environment.
This internship is designed to provide meaningful, hands-on experience that prepares students for a potential full-time career with IBM Consulting upon graduation.
In this role, you'll work in one of our IBM Consulting FutureNow Centers, where we deliver deep technical and industry expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients around the world. Our delivery centers offer our clients locally based skills and technical expertise to drive innovation and adoption of new technology.
Your role and responsibilities
As an Intern Cybersecurity Specialist at IBM, you'll gain hands-on experience helping organizations protect critical systems, secure digital operations, and strengthen cyber resilience through enterprise security solutions. You'll work alongside experienced IBM professionals while developing practical technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills that prepare you for a future career in cybersecurity and enterprise consulting.
As part of our cybersecurity practice, you'll help clients strengthen their cyber resilience across areas such as threat detection, security monitoring, vulnerability management, incident response, governance, risk, compliance, and security assessments. Based on business needs, your skills, and your interests, you'll have opportunities to develop specialized expertise across CyberDefend or Cyber Threat Management while building a broad foundation in cybersecurity consulting.
During your internship, you'll gain exposure to how organizations leverage modern security technologies, threat intelligence, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and leading cybersecurity practices to protect systems, data, and business operations from evolving cyber threats.
No two projects are exactly alike. You may contribute to projects supporting clients across healthcare, financial services, retail, manufacturing, government, energy, and more.
Throughout your internship, you'll collaborate with experienced cybersecurity specialists, business professionals, and technology experts while learning how organizations solve complex security challenges through enterprise technology. Through mentorship, structured learning, hands-on project experiences, and AI-enabled tools, you'll strengthen your technical capabilities, analytical thinking, and professional skills while building a strong foundation for a future career at IBM.
During your internship, you may have opportunities to:
• Support cybersecurity initiatives that strengthen security operations, governance, risk management, compliance, and cyber resilience.
• Assist with analyzing security requirements, documenting security processes, and supporting cybersecurity assessments and risk management activities.
• Contribute to security monitoring, vulnerability management, incident response, identity and access management, and threat detection activities.
• Analyze security events, operational data, and cyber risks to identify trends, support decision-making, and develop recommendations that improve client security outcomes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional business and technology teams while gaining exposure to enterprise security platforms, cloud technologies, and cybersecurity transformation initiatives.
• Assist with testing, validating, and supporting cybersecurity solutions while learning how organizations protect critical business systems and information.
• Participate in project meetings, workshops, and professional development opportunities while building communication, teamwork, and consulting skills.
To give yourself the best opportunity for success, we advise applying only to roles that align with your skills and experience, rather than applying broadly across all entry-level positions. You'll receive a status update email for each application, so be sure to check your IBM Careers account regularly - it's the best way to get a centralized view of which roles you have active applications against.
