Cyber security engineers also work with other security professionals from other businesses to share information on potential threats and vulnerabilities.

What is a cyber security engineer?

Cyber Security Engineers are professionals responsible for protecting an organization’s computer systems, networks, and data from security breaches, cyber attacks, and other threats. They design, implement, and maintain security measures such as firewalls, encryption, and intrusion detection systems. Their role also involves monitoring network activity, conducting vulnerability assessments, and responding to incidents to ensure the safety and integrity of information assets. Cyber Security Engineers work across various industries to safeguard sensitive information and keep up with evolving cyber threats.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Cyber Security Engineer?

To excel as a Cyber Security Engineer, you need a deep understanding of network security, risk assessment, and incident response, usually supported by a degree in computer science or related field and relevant certifications like CISSP or CEH. • Continuously look for opportunities to simplify and improve security operations.
Collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Support colleagues with complex security-related technical issues.
  • Contribute technical documentation and operational procedures.
  • Participate in ICT projects to ensure security is considered from the beginning.
