Commissioning (Cx) Manager Assistant

Location: Barstow, TX (On-Site with Limited Remote Work)

Position Summary

VADD Construction Services is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Commissioning (Cx) Manager Assistant to support commissioning activities for mission-critical construction projects. The successful candidate will assist with commissioning planning, system testing, documentation management, project turnover activities, and coordination between project stakeholders to ensure building systems are commissioned in accordance with design intent, owner requirements, and operational standards.

The Cx Manager Assistant will work closely with the Commissioning Manager, General Contractor, Trade Partners, Design Team, and Owner representatives to support successful project execution and operational readiness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Pre-Commissioning Planning

  • Assist in the development, review, and maintenance of commissioning plans, schedules, and readiness documentation.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities with construction schedules and project milestones.
  • Support the preparation and tracking of commissioning deliverables and documentation.
  • Assist with commissioning meetings and coordination efforts across project teams.

System Testing and Verification

  • Support functional performance testing activities for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, and other critical systems.
  • Track deficiencies, issues, and non-conformances identified during testing.
  • Coordinate corrective actions with contractors, vendors, and commissioning stakeholders.
  • Maintain testing records and documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements.

Post-Commissioning and Turnover Support

  • Assist in verifying system readiness for owner occupancy and operations.
  • Support development and organization of turnover packages.
  • Assist in coordinating operator training sessions and documentation delivery.
  • Ensure project closeout documentation is complete and properly archived.

Meetings, Reporting, and Performance Tracking

  • Attend Owner-Architect-Contractor (OAC) meetings, commissioning meetings, and trade coordination sessions.
  • Track commissioning checklists, test scripts, deficiency logs, turnover documentation, and readiness milestones.
  • Monitor and report commissioning progress, including:
    • System completion status
    • Test pass/fail rates
    • Outstanding deficiencies
    • Resolution timelines
  • Support schedule management and risk mitigation efforts.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Facilities Management, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
  • 2–5 years of experience supporting construction, commissioning, quality assurance, or project management activities.
  • Experience with data center, mission-critical, industrial, or commercial construction projects preferred.
  • Strong organizational and documentation management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and commissioning documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting commissioning activities on mission-critical facilities or data centers.
  • Knowledge of commissioning processes and industry standards.
  • Familiarity with MEP systems, controls systems, and integrated systems testing.
  • Experience with project management software, commissioning platforms, or document control systems.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work on active construction sites.
  • Ability to walk long distances, climb stairs, and access equipment areas.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Must comply with all site safety requirements and PPE standards.

Travel Requirements

  • Regular travel to project sites as required.
  • Ability to work extended hours during critical commissioning and turnover phases.
  • Willingness to support a rotating schedule of on-site and remote project activities.
