Egger Steel Company | Sioux Falls, SD | Full-Time

Compensation: $85,000–$95,000 per year, depending on experience

For more than 80 years, Egger Steel Company has been a leading provider of structural steel fabrication in the Upper Midwest. We're employee-owned (ESOP) — meaning when the company succeeds, our employees share directly in that success. We're looking for a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join our quality control team and help ensure the bridge girders and structural steel components we fabricate meet the highest standards of code, safety, and craftsmanship.

Why Egger Steel
  • 80+ years as a trusted structural steel fabricator in the Upper Midwest

  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) — build real equity as you build your career

  • Stable, established company with long-term project pipelines, including bridge work

  • Performance-based bonus opportunities tied to company results

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect weldments to ensure compliance with AWS codes, project specifications, and company standards

  • Perform inspections on bridge girders and structural steel assemblies throughout fabrication

  • Verify weld quality, fit-up, and dimensional requirements prior to shipment

  • Inspect surface preparation and paint coatings on bridge girders to ensure compliance with project specifications

  • Interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings

  • Maintain welding procedures, welder qualifications, and inspection documentation

  • Identify quality issues, support root cause analysis, and assist with corrective actions

  • Work with production teams to improve weld quality and fabrication consistency

Qualifications
  • Active AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required

  • 5+ years of welding, fabrication, or manufacturing quality experience preferred — strong candidates with less experience are encouraged to apply

  • Knowledge of AWS D1.1 structural welding code

  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and weld symbols

  • Experience with structural steel preferred

  • Familiarity with coating or paint inspection on structural steel is a plus

Compensation & Benefits
  • $85,000–$95,000 per year, depending on experience

  • Paid Time Off (PTO)

  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance

  • Group Term Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance

  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer contribution

  • Performance-based bonus opportunities tied to company results

  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)

If you're a skilled CWI looking for a stable, employee-owned company where your inspections directly protect public infrastructure, we want to hear from you. Apply today!
