Job description

Essential Functions:

R&D Project Support

  • Serve as technical lead for development and manufacturing improvement projects, owning technical direction, evaluating scalability, and proactively identifying and mitigating risks to achieve project objectives, while providing clear, data-driven technical recommendations and decisions.
  • Serve as Project Manager of R&D NDP Projects, leading stage-gate execution while coordinating timelines, costs, and resources to achieve desired business objectives.
  • Lead plant coating trial preparation, planning, and execution, including design, build, and operation of R&D chemical delivery systems and coordination with plant personnel to ensure successful execution.
  • Provide technical leadership and support for CVD lab activities, including equipment upgrades, capability enhancements, and experimental setups.

Technical Support

  • Provide hands-on technical support during production campaigns for new and existing coated products.
  • Support manufacturing sites with coating equipment troubleshooting, coater rebuilds, process optimization, defect identification, and corrective actions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and deliver training to plant and R&D personnel on coatings processes, products, and equipment to strengthen technical capability across R&D and manufacturing teams.
  • Serve as a key technical liaison between R&D and manufacturing to ensure alignment, prioritize support needs, and establish an effective, structured technical support model; coordinate and track initiatives and monitor support effectiveness.

 Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with safety standards, MOC processes, and risk management practices (PFMEA, hazard analysis, etc.).
  • Promote and reinforce a strong safety culture across laboratory and plant environments.
  • Ensure alignment with quality systems and product requirements during development, scale-up, and support
  • Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles
  • Other duties as assigned by manager

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or similar technical degree.
  • 8+ years of experience in float glass production, glass coating, or glass processing (bending, tempering, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and deliver results
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or structured problem-solving methodologies
  • Ability to travel estimated at 25%

Qualifications Desired:

  • Experience in scaling technologies from lab to manufacturing
  • Proven track record of innovation and successful commercialization
  • Experience with experimental design and data interpretation
