Job description

Direct Counsel represents a prestigious AmLaw firm seeking an International Trade Associate to join its ITC Section 337 Litigation & Trade Remedies Practice Group in Washington, DC. This opportunity is ideal for a mid-to-senior level associate with experience in international trade, customs, trade remedies, administrative litigation, or related regulatory matters who is looking to build a long-term practice within a growing national platform.

Location: Washington, DC

Responsibilities:

  • Draft briefs, agency submissions, memoranda, and advocacy materials in trade remedy and trade policy matters
  • Support antidumping (AD) and countervailing duty (CVD) proceedings before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) and U.S. Department of Commerce
  • Advise clients on customs matters, including tariff classification, valuation, country-of-origin determinations, and import compliance
  • Assist with trade compliance reviews, audits, investigations, and risk assessments
  • Conduct legal and factual research involving statutes, regulations, administrative records, and trade data
  • Develop factual records, litigation strategies, and evidentiary submissions
  • Manage case workstreams, deadlines, filings, and client deliverables
  • Collaborate with attorneys, economists, consultants, clients, and agency-facing teams
  • Support matters involving customs, trade policy, compliance counseling, trade remedies, and related litigation

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active Washington, DC Bar admission and good standing
  • Mid-to-senior level experience in international trade, customs, trade remedies, administrative litigation, or a related practice area
  • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • Antidumping and countervailing duty (AD/CVD) proceedings
    • ITC Section 337 investigations
    • Customs and import compliance matters
    • Trade remedy litigation
    • Trade compliance counseling
    • Administrative law and agency proceedings

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience translating complex legal, economic, and factual issues into persuasive advocacy
  • Strong client service orientation and business judgment
  • Interest in developing a long-term international trade practice
  • Desire to assume increasing responsibility and pursue a partnership track

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary range: $240,000 – $390,000 annually, depending on experience
