The Role

The Customs Brokerage Manager is responsible for the overall management, organization, and development of the Customs Brokerage department. This role oversees daily import clearance activities, customer service requirements and procedures, team performance, training, workload distribution, billing accuracy, and communication across internal departments.

The ideal candidate is an experienced customs brokerage and logistics leader who can provide strong direction, develop team members, improve processes, and ensure the department operates efficiently while delivering a high level of service to internal and external customers.

What You'll DoDepartment Leadership and Team Development
  • Lead and manage the Customs Brokerage department, providing structure, organization, and direction to the team.

  • Evaluate employee performance and follow established performance and wage increase guidelines.

  • Clearly define staff responsibilities and ensure workloads are distributed effectively.

  • Provide leadership, support, coaching, and guidance to help team members successfully complete their responsibilities.

  • Train, follow up with, and support the ongoing development of department staff.

  • Address employee questions, conflicts, and training needs while fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.

Customs Brokerage Operations
  • Oversee the day-to-day clearing of inbound cargo and ensure customer service requirements and procedures are effectively managed.

  • Ensure the Customs Brokerage department fulfills its responsibilities within the broader logistics process.

  • Communicate with staff and internal departments to maintain timely and accurate information flow.

  • Respond to urgent requests and work toward resolution while maintaining positive relationships with internal and external customers.

  • Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes, and overall departmental efficiency.

Billing and Process Management
  • Ensure accurate and timely billing practices across the department.

  • Monitor the paid-not-billed report and ensure files are billed within appropriate timeframes.

  • Make adjustments to systems and processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Communicate regularly with the VP of Operations, Branch Manager, and other stakeholders regarding departmental responsibilities, questions, and training needs.

Communication and Problem Resolution
  • Effectively communicate technical information through written and verbal communication, including phone and email.

  • Resolve conflicts and operational issues among team members and stakeholders.

  • Perform calculations involving fees, percentages, taxes, currency conversions, weights, measurements, U.S. Customs and other agency fees, time zones, and schedules.

What You Bring
  • A minimum of 3 years of Customs Brokerage import experience is required.

  • A minimum of 3 years of supervisory or management experience within logistics, specifically in a Customs Brokerage department, is required.

  • A Customs House Brokerage License is preferred but not required.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.

  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.

  • Proven ability to lead, support, train, and develop team members.

  • Ability to delegate responsibilities and manage workload distribution effectively.

  • Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical and operational calculations accurately.

  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, time management, and leadership skills.

  • A high level of personal accountability, professionalism, reliability, and customer focus.

Compensation & Schedule Details

Base Pay Range: $95,000 to $105,000 annually

As required by applicable Pay Transparency laws, Odyssey provides a range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired in locations under these requirements. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include a wide array of factors, including your specific skills and experience, geographic location, and other relevant factors. The salary range for this position may be lower or higher in different markets.

This is a salaried, exempt position. The role generally requires an average of 40 hours per week, with additional hours as needed based on business requirements.

No relocation allowance will be considered unless specifically addressed. All applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States.

Additional Information

This is not a safety-sensitive position and is subject to a 5-panel drug test, including marijuana.

The work environment is a normal office environment. The employee must be able to sit for extended periods and occasionally stand, walk, reach, grasp, handle objects, and operate standard office equipment. The position may require lifting up to 30 pounds.
