The Supply Chain team focuses on keeping things moving across all aspects of our business. They make an impact by ensuring our products get from the vendors to the DCs to the stores in the most efficient and timely way. Their goal is to improve each step within the process, so we have the right product at the right place at the right time for our pet parents.


About the Location

Collaborative Work Environment:
At PetSmart, teamwork and connection are core to how we thrive. This role is based at our Phoenix Home Office, with an expectation of working a minimum of four days in the office each week. In a standard work week, associates may work up to one remote “flex day” (with leader approval). Our hybrid approach is designed to foster strong collaboration while also supporting flexibility and individual success.

The Sr. Customs Analyst is responsible for supporting daily compliance with Canada, Puerto Rico and U.S. import requirements to ensure that the company is in compliance with all appropriate Customs and Participating Government Agency (PGA) regulations. Compliance and process mindset are paramount to maintaining PetSmart’s compliance program. Organization and attention to detail are required for job tasks.

Supervisory Requirements

There are no supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Effectively communicate and build relationships with Transportation, Distribution, Replenishment, Vendor Management, Finance, Legal, Merchandising and Global Sourcing departments as well as vendors and service providers
  • Monitor, identify, and support resolution of shipment and compliance issues to ensure timely and compliant movement of goods
  • Support PGA processes, including gathering and maintaining ingredients lists and required data, and obtaining and tracking export/import permits
  • Support HTSUS/HTSCA and PGA code assignment and maintenance, including supporting and overseeing classification activities in coordination with internal stakeholders
  • Perform pre- and post-entry audits of Customs entries, identifying trends or risks and supporting corrective actions
  • Run and analyze reports in company and service provider platforms to identify issues, trends, and opportunities for improvement
  • File US Census declarations, coordinate DC/vendor/freight transportation for international expansion exports; file Puerto Rico Hacienda import tax declarations
  • Manage USMCA and other duty preference program certificates from vendors
  • Support Customs programs and projects such as CTPAT audits, Duty Drawback, FTZ, and similar initiatives
  • Manage Canadian Exclusion module processes which help determine goods that are eligible to go to Canada
  • Manage invoicing for customs brokerage services and permits, ensuring accuracy and alignment with services performed
  • Manage and validate estimated landed cost duties for international shipments and vendors
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent program preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in import/export compliance preferred
  • Retail and/or supply chain background is a plus
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint and SAP
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong human relations skills to build positive relationships with team, other departments, external suppliers and government officials
