Job description

Position Title: Service Tech / Mechanic

Reports To: Service Manager

Exempt/Non-exempt: Non-exempt

Location(s): Newington CT

Salary range starting at $33.62+ commensurate on experience and technical experience

JOB SUMMARY

The Service Tech / Mechanic works with guidance from shop foreman/working foreman in shop and/or field. The ability to perform basic diagnostics, basic mechanical, basic hydraulic and a basic understanding of service manuals. The ability to perform general services on equipment lines carried (oils & filters). Prepping of machines i.e. PDI’s and clean & checks. The ability and willingness to work with other technicians to complete a task.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Consults with customers to collect information on equipment history, problem with the equipment, and/or known maintenance or repairs required.
  • Identifies mechanical problems visually and/or with computer diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, lubrication and tire rotation.
  • Performs tests on specific parts and systems to determine whether they are operating properly.
  • Examines critical parts and systems using standard checklists.
  • Plans repairs and timetables for completion; provides customers with time and cost estimates.
  • Performs routine and preventative maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups.
  • Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems
  • Conducts post-repair testing and diagnostics.
  • Test drives equipment to confirm proper operation, that repairs have been made properly, and that problems have been resolved.
  • Prioritize jobs and ensure maintenance shop is maintained in a clean, safe and organized manner.
  • Record keeping and documentation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE / ATTRIBUTES

  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues using diagnostic tools and software.
  • Experience with maintenance and repair of engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems and electrical systems on heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations related to heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with team members and clients.
  • Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy parts and equipment.
  • Availability to work flexible hours and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to read work orders.
  • Ability to perform repairs in a timely fashion.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, climb and squat to perform repairs and inspections; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand, and finger skills in the use of tools, telephone, or writing. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to periodically lift 50 pounds; Ability to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
