JOB SUMMARY:
A Field Service Engineer is responsible for providing preventative maintenance, repair services, and commissioning support on low, medium, and high voltage (Up to 500kV) electrical systems. The Field Service Engineer is required to have a basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and components, as well as a fundamental understanding of the tools and processes required to complete system maintenance and repair activities.
Field Service Engineer are responsible for delivering high quality service and customer satisfaction, as well as, working well with the team and providing support/coverage as per business needs.
Responsibilities:
  • Instrument, CT, PT, and CPT transformer Testing
  • Power Transformer testing - Doble, TTR, Insulation Resistance, Winding Resistance, etc.
  • Test both electro-mechanical and solid-state relays.
  • Cable testing - Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC/AC-Hi-Pot Testing.
  • Automatic Transfer Switch troubleshooting, understanding of the sequence of operation and elementary diagram
  • Able to understand and troubleshoot/test complex 83-control schemes.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of a one-line diagram
  • Must be able to work safety and adhere to all electrical safety core principals and procedures.

Service Administration and Reporting:
  • Demonstrate the ability learn applicable business systems, complete all administrative responsibilities, and meet established deadlines.
  • Service orders - enter all pertinent job information (e.g., customer, time, actions taken, expenses)
  • Business expense and receipt submittal for approval and processing
  • Timesheet submission in an accurate and timely manner for approval
  • Satisfactory completion of internal safety audit

Complete all training requirements:
  • Demonstrate the willingness and ability to complete all on-boarding training requirements and annual retraining as needed
  • Basic Electrical Safety Training
  • CPR / First Aid / AED training
  • Arc Flash/PPE training

QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED required. Prefer an associate degree from an accredited 2-year technical college in Electrical Technology or graduated from an accredited 4-year electrical apprenticeship program OR similar experience and training from the Military.
  • 5 Plus years of experience withing electrical testing field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required to communicate in an effective and professional manner with internal and external clients
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Must be willing and able to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed to meet customer requirements.
  • Ability and willingness to review emails/answer calls periodically on the weekend
  • Some travel is required. Willingness to travel outside of assigned territory, including overnight stays, as necessary to meet customer requirements.
  • Prefer OSHA 30-hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, and CPR/First Aid, company can/will provide the above safety training.
  • Must live or be willing to move to within a 90-minute drive of service coverage area. The service coverage area is all within the state of Virginia and DC markets.
  • NICET Certification a plus. Would require becoming a NICET level 2 and 3 within first 12 months of joining the organization.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Job related military service (e.g., Naval Nuclear Electricians Mate or Air Force Power Production Technician) Technical School Certification or directly related field experience with Power Control Systems, or other low and medium voltage power applications.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematic drawings
  • Ability to read and understand electrical one-line diagrams
  • Ability to use appropriate test equipment to troubleshoot and diagnose problems
