Custom Upholsterer

TABER, the leading manufacturer of custom millwork, metalwork, and upholstery in Orange County, is seeking a Custom Upholsterer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in upholstery, be able to operate sewing machines, read work orders, and collaborate with other members of our team. You will be responsible for bringing our amazing projects to reality.

Your projects will be amongst some of the largest and most preeminent ones in Southern California, and you will be working with many of the biggest contractors and sophisticated owners and architects.

We have a strong custom upholstery department, and we are looking to expand. We are willing to train and mentor anyone qualified for the positions.

Our ideal Custom Upholstery Candidate:

  • 5 years minimum upholstery experience
  • Ability to manually strip and re-cover furniture
  • Well versed in repairing and finishing furniture to improve appearance.
  • Using power and hand tools, apply and install batting, foam, poly-filler and cut fabric to wooden framework in the assembly of hand-crafted furniture
  • Attach finishes, including buttons, trim, tassels and other decorative accessories, to complete orders according to specifications
  • Measure and cut fabric or leather pieces with the aid of patterns or stencils and industrial cutting tools to precise sizes and dimensions
  • Read work orders and maintain database of production status for communication with outside clients as well as in-house sales managers
  • Operate hand-sewing equipment, nail guns, hobnail and tack hammers, hot-knife cutters and other industrial equipment
  • Discuss complications supervisors and brainstorm solutions for increased productivity
