Job description

Purpose of Position (This recruitment series is to fill one open position within the Airport Custodian team in the Airport Facility Division. To be considered qualified, an applicant must meet the minimum requirements for one of the following three levels of the Airport Custodian positions.) Performs custodial duties to maintain the Airport Terminal, Snow Removal Equipment (SRE) building and general facility maintenance of terminal grounds and vehicle parking lots. Airport Custodian I Grade 7 - Monthly Salary $3,830.00 - $4,873.00 Airport Custodian II Grade 9 - Monthly Salary $4,223.00 - $5,373.00 Airport Custodian III Grade 11 - Monthly Salary $4,656.00 - $5,923.00 This position may be required to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays

Essential Job Functions Cleans floors and carpeting; washes interior and exterior windows and glass doors; sanitizes all rest rooms; picks up and removes trash; cleans furniture; dusts all surfaces high and low; washes walls and pressure wash sidewalks on a weekly basis. Performs outdoor cleanup tasks on Airport property, including all vehicle parking areas; right-of-way on Airport roads, terminal and SRE building grounds. Performs minor building maintenance as required.

May operate a motor vehicle on occasion to attend to building maintenance needs. Performs winter maintenance duties at terminal. Remove snow from sidewalks; sand walks when icy conditions occur; monitor icy and unsafe road conditions at the terminal and reports conditions to supervisor; and sweep sand from walks after storms.

Promotes an effective, responsive, and value-based organizational culture. Champions the values of the City and Airport through example and accountability. Work is reviewed through results achieved, meetings, spot checks of work in progress, and an evaluation of results achieved.

Performs baggage handling system reset when bag jams occur in the baggage screening area. Security knowledge, responsibilities and active participation are mandatory requirements due to Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations. Security responsibilities and training will be provided.

Employee accepts and acknowledges responsibilities upon issuance of a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge. May be required to drive City vehicles from one area of the Airport to another, or other City buildings, for custodial duties, snow removal, trainings, etc. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Airport Custodian I JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Mandatory Requirements: High school diploma, or GED equivalent, plus twelve (12) months verifiable work experience in commercial custodian work. Must have knowledge of supplies, materials and equipment used in commercial custodial work. Must be able to successfully pass and maintain continuous successful FBI and TSA background checks.

Understand and execute complex oral and written instructions; express ideas and convey information effectively, orally and in writing; maintain confidentiality; deal effectively with frequent interruptions and several situations at one time; establish priorities and organize own workload; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, public and private offices, and the general public; and effectively use business telephone etiquette. Must be able to engage with and follow all security requirements. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPTMENT: PPE requirements as outlined in the position specific PPE Hazard Assessment Certification.

Special Requirements/Licenses: The position may require employees to operate a motor vehicle in the course of their duties. Possession of, or required to obtain within thirty (30) days from date of hire, a valid Oregon driver's license. Must have a safe driving record.

Desirable Requirements: For desirable requirements to be considered, one must have met the minimum requirements noted above: Two (2) years or more verifiable custodian work experience in an airport environment Two (2) years or more verifiable commercial custodian work experience Eighteen (18) months or more verifiable work experience in a City/County government setting Possession of, or ability to obtain First Aid / CPR certification within six (6) months of employment Airport Custodian II JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Mandatory Requirements: High school diploma, or GED equivalent, plus three (3) years verifiable work experience in both commercial custodian work and commercial facilities maintenance. Have (6) years' experience in stripping, waxing and buffing of all hard surfaces and equipment to accomplish the task.

Six (6) years or more verifiable custodian work experience in an airport environment. Six (6) years or more verifiable commercial custodian work experience. Four (4) years verifiable work experience in a City/County government setting.

Possession of, or ability to obtain First Aid / CPR certification within six (6) months of employment. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Hand power tools, heavy custodian floor maintenance equipment, paint equipment, ATV (4-wheeler) for sanding walks, small snowplow, and power broom for snow removal on sidewalks and areas around SRE and Terminal buildings, mobile radio, and aviation radio. Also, Kubota tractors, backpack blowers, and pressure washers will be used.

This position requires use of City vehicles.
