Machinist - Horizontal CNC Lathes (DMG, Mazak, Doosan) 2nd Shift
Location: Summerville SC
Shift: 2nd (3pm-11pm)
Curtiss-Wright Steam & Air Solutions (SAS), a business unit of Curtiss-Wright, designs, manufactures, tests and provides - Navy steam turbines and steam valves, nuclear steam turbines, and aftermarket steam parts, upgrades, and overhauls. This brand-new state-of-the-art facility is approximately 134,000 square feet dedicated to manufacturing in relations to machining, welding, assembly and quality inspections.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented CNC Lathe Machinists to set up, operate, and maintain horizontal CNC lathes. You will be responsible for producing precision components while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
Your Challenge:
  • Set up and operate horizontal CNC lathes (DMG, Mazak, and Doosan models) performing precision machining to tolerances within 0.001"
  • Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders
  • Load materials and set tooling per job specifications
  • Monitor machine operations and make adjustments to maintain tolerances
  • Perform routine maintenance on machines
  • Conduct in-process inspection using precision measuring tools
  • Maintain clean and safe work environment
  • Work collaboratively with engineers and quality control team

Your Expertise:
  • 3+ years of experience operating horizontal CNC lathes
  • Proficiency with DMG, Mazak, and/or Doosan controls (e.g., Fanuc, Mazatrol)
  • Strong understanding of G-code and M-code
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
  • Experience with precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, etc.)
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
  • Experience in a high-precision, low-volume production environment
  • Basic programming/editing skills
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality standards
  • Due to DoD requirements, candidates must be US citizens
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DoD Security clearances and approvals
