Position Summary
****This is an onsite, in-person position located in the St. Louis, Missouri area. Candidates should apply only if they are able to be physically present and available to work onsite by the start date****
St. Louis Community College's Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care is seeking adjunct instructors to teach didactic, laboratory, and/or clinical coursework in the BSRC program at the Florissant Valley Campus.
Primary Duties Performed
Adjunct instructors are responsible for the instruction and evaluation of respiratory care students in the Bachelor of Science in respiratory care program. Instructors are responsible for ensuring students meet the student learning outcomes for each clinical course. For didactic and laboratory teaching, adjuncts are expected to deliver lectures, lead discussions, and/or demonstrate the skills necessary of a registered respiratory therapist. Instructors are expected to develop course syllabi, lesson plans, and course materials to facilitate students' attainment of programmatic and course learning outcomes that align with CoARC accreditation standards.
Clinical instruction will include site visits to observe and mentor students during their clinical rotations. Instructors will collaborate with the site preceptors to ensure that students are meeting clinical objectives.
In all areas of the curriculum, instructors must assess students' understanding of the theory and practice of respiratory care. Instructors must provide constructive feedback on student performance, offering guidance for the improvement and addressing academic concerns or challenges that may be encountered. Instructors must make time outside of class, lab, and clinical to allow for advisement of students to facilitate the achievement of goals.
KNOWLEDGE - SKILLS - ABILITIES:
A respiratory care adjunct instructor must exemplify the professional behaviors as stated in the AARC Statement of Ethics and Professional Conduct. Instructors are expected to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
Qualifications/Experience
Bachelor's degree or higher required
NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Credential
AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Certification (for clinical instruction only)
Two years or more experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
PREFERRED:
Graduate degree
Five years or more experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
Two years or more experience as a clinical educator or preceptor
Working Conditions
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Negligible to moderate physical activity, which may include standing for extended periods, light lifting of instructional materials, and use of standard classroom or computer equipment.
    • Classroom, clinical, laboratory, or online instructional environment
