The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking applications for a twelve-month, open rank, open tenure faculty position in the Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) Program, housed within the Department of Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences (CDS) in the School of Health Professions (SHP).
This full-time faculty position focuses primarily on teaching, with required contributions to scholarship and service consistent with departmental, school, and university expectations.

Primary Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching didactic and laboratory courses in the areas of Clinical Chemistry and Instrumentation/Automation at both the bachelor's (BS) and master's (MS) levels.

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Contributing to program curriculum development and accreditation activities.
  • Advising and mentoring students.
  • Engaging in scholarly activities appropriate to a tenure-earning faculty role.
  • Participating in departmental, school, and university service.
  • Teaching other program or departmental courses as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree required; doctoral degree strongly preferred.
  • National certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Board Certification in Clinical Pathology.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience in an accredited Medical Laboratory Science program.
  • Experience teaching or practicing within Clinical Chemistry and/or laboratory instrumentation.
  • Evidence of scholarly engagement or interest in research.
